Yuk! My cat just brought her supper in with her! My hubby said he'd go and get the cats in for the night, then he called me into the kitchen. There sat Phoebe with a rat in her mouth! She then very proudly put it down on the mat for me. Of course I said 'Thank you!' Picked the poor thing up with a sheet of paper towel and it was still warm! Ewww! It was quite a biggie too, and a little boy by the looks of it. YUK! I hate that part of having cats.

UHG I don't think I would want to handle the rat. Feeding them at a pet shop grossed me out. Just talk to your cat and tell her gently no more nasty rats. I am sure she will understand.

haha you can take the cat out of the wild but not the wild out of the cat, i have a cat that is bred with a bengal tiger (its a few generations down tho) and he is WILD, hell stalk things like a tiger and catch any anoles that wander into our house haha.

we call him beaver cause he is as robost as one.

There are wild cats all over my neighborhood. I've come outside to scare away cats, and they often leave behind their "treats".

WOW, a cat took a rat down? That IS impressive.

She's a clever girl!! Here's a pic of the rat. It was confined to a cardboard box last night as I wasn't going out in the garden at 11pm to get rid of it! The rat measured 5 inches from snout to tale base. Eeugh!

It's wierd for us as we have pet rats (which two of our cats ignore) but outside they go for wild rats. We have had loads of things over the years from Tabitha - rats, mice, shrews, lizards, toads, pigeons and rabbits. The worst is when she found a nest of mice and tried to bring them all in (we had to lock her in the house) and also when she found a nest of birds, just went in and took the chicks. That was hard as she broke the necks and they were still warm when she brought them in. I know it's their nature, but that is the downside of cats. On the up side, if any of the crickets get loose, I let the cats get them!

I quite agree about you never being able to take the wild outta the kitty, we have a young male black moggy, and he stalks and catches just about what ever he can, but as soon as i take the lid off of the locust box he appears from no where..... purring his head off til i give him one.... he loves them!

Phoebe finds the locusts fascinating and she did play with an escapee once but she didn't eat it. Funny thing is though, she is a big jelly when it comes to strangers! When someone rings the doorbell she runs and hides! Stupid cat! She will creep really slowly past Amy's viv - I'm not sure she realises that there's anything in there, but she knows that she should be scared of it whatever it is, lol! She's just a big wuss-cat really! We've had her 3 years today!

Yeah, mine tend to hide when people who they don't know are around. As they have got older they pay attention to the birds, but if they are in the garden they know they aren't allowed to go for them. Lucie has noticed Hugo, but so far hasn't tried to investigate. Tabitha will be 10 in September, Lucie will be and Seren will be a year. All September babies!
