I just want bawl. Having Rex in my care for about a week now and although he is doing better, problems still keep coming up. I just look at him and cry now. I want him to be happy and healthy. I'm doing everything I can for this guy and he is fighting to make it ... Its breaking my heart !!! How did this poor guy get in this bad of shape... Curse the owner who had him living this way. Very discouraged right now :(

Keep on fighting with him. He needs you strong and on top of your game. You are doing a great job.

My latest rehab: Last week, i was given a very sick female dragon. Eye infection in both eyes, RI and is a skeleton with skin. She is still fighting and im here with her.

try not to break down, things are going to get better for you and rex!!! i know its looking dim right now but you both will get thru this :) he isnt in that bad of shape and you are taking really good care of him :) he is already happier with the proper enclosure and love you are giving him and he will be healthy soon enough having an owner who is doing all the right things to get him there!!

Itll be okay. Even if he doesn't make it and passes away its just his time and will no longer be suffering. If he does make it obviously its because you did something to help him unlike the irresponsible idiot that had him before. Have you taken him to the vet??

Keep your chin up! You are doing the best you can and if he does not make it atleast you gave it your best shot. It is maddening how people can treat animals. I will never understand it. I have been on the forum for three years now and have seen some heartbreaking stories on here. Some of the chameleons have been literally tortured. Not intentionally, but by lack of knowledge and research. I took in a Sambava a year ago this month. He was acquired by another forum member who was moving out of town. When I went to get him he was in a nice big cage, but one dying plant with a few leaves and a few sticks to climb on. Being fed only crickets and the crickets were fed some flukers crap. I live in Fla and the sad thing is, the owner never took him out in the sun! When I got him he was dull green and had a bad case of gular edema. The edema still comes and goes and I have tried just about everything to rid him of it but to no avail. Anyways, his colors are not as vibrant as many of the chameleons on here but he looks a thousand times better. He turned 4 yrs old in Dec. I am giving him a great life and he enjoys most of his days outside in the Fla sunshine. All you can do is provide the best possible care, but unfortunately sometimes it is not enough due to the way the chameleon was treated before you got him.

My first veiled was a rescue who I unfortunately lost so I know exactly how you feel :(
But stay positive for your buddy.. I volunteer at a reptile centre where we have had many chams come in that look like they won't even make it through the night and are now so incredibly healthy you would never think they were the same animals!
Same goes for other species of lizards, geckos and snakes.
Animal cruelty and neglect is insane here in the UAE and I cannot tell you how many times I have come home holding back tears, but with perseverance and your positive energy, you will see massive improvements. Just be patient :) it is people like you who are willing to take the time and give their effort to animals like this that make all the difference!
Keep your spirits up!

Its so hard, since he's been home with me I absolutley love and adore this guy. Vet visit is booked in for thursday.. I hope all goes well. The poor guy wants to make it.. I'm actually doing everything I can for this guy and I still worry its not enough :(

You're doing great, he would not even be alive if it wasn't for you, stay strong love that boy and keep the faith....my thoughts and prayers for you and Rex.

We have all been there. Don't give up Rex is worth it and you are doing great.

I took in a rescue here off the forum. A girl in Seattle was ready to put her cham down. I paid to have her mailed to me. Yes I lost her but only after 2 1/2 wonderful years together. I don't even have a vet close but that little sweetie and I worked through parasites, RI, and her being so skinny you could almost see through her. Lucky was a fighter, and she made it. Hubby changed her name to lucky as he said she was lucky to be here as I was her only chance.

I hope you and Rex have a good long time together.

read this :) not so much a "rescue" - but talk about just a great job helping her cham - she is a cham hero !! a very positive story ( go back and read all her threads) - do not give up, I have also had rescues of all types, if your little guy should not make it, do not blame yourself, you gave him a chance, without you, he would have NO chance - stay strong and will pray for you and your little guy :)

I won't give up ! I'm giving it everything I have.. Working with a very heavy heart. Still lots of prayers and well wishes... He's a sweet boy and I want us to have years together

I don't have a rescue story for you, I just want to say cheer up and don't lose hope! One of my guys was really sick when he was a baby, and I cried so many times fearing that one morning I'd go to his cage and find him dead.. but he made it!
It's wonderful what you are doing, and the little guy is definitely in good hands now! I wish you both the best!:)
