So there was a fire in an apt building in my complex. close enough i could smell smoke, hear the fire alarm, and hear the firemen breaking the windows.

I realized that, god forbid, I need to evac my chams in the middle of the night. i have nothing to put them in.

Im going and getting some plastic bins, about the size of a shoe box, putting air holes in the lids, and labeling them for each of the chams.

this way, if i have to leave. i have secure places for them to be.

just thought it migh tbe a good idea for tohers out here.

:D

Always good to have a plan :) I have shoeboxes (one for each chameleon) ready for this purpose. Inside each are two heat packs (just in case). I also keep a couple large bird cages (folded up, to be reassembled at destination).

Yea im about to get some plastic shoebox sized bins for them. cages.. havent worked that out yet. but ill think of something.

Where in live in Montana I face this possibility every winter. My set up for emergency's is a lot easier. Get a large insulated box, like we ship chams in. Divide the box into compartments to hold all your chams. Time could be an issue. Have a bag packed with heat packs, cool packs and the necessary number of butterfly cages for each cham. Butterfly cages fold up to nothing, so put the chams in a box grab your bag and you are out of there.:) If you have over 2 chams you are now having to juggle boxes of chams- you might not get them and you out in time. I keep 16 x16 x24 butterfly cages. All my supplies are in one walmart bag.:)

butterfly cages!!! yes! genious idea!

and i have 7 chams.... just realized that this could be bad.
maybe ill get one of those under the bed bins, that are like 6 inches tall, but wider and stuff, and put dividers in. and glue in some fake vines for them to hold onto. and stick the butterfly cages in a bag.. geniour laurie!

Perfect idea to use in my area as well! Thanks for the great plan!!

You are all very smart thinkers! Most humans do not have proper evacuation plans for themselves, let alone their animals.

If i leave, my animals leave. they are my family, my children. i would never leave my flesh and blood human kids behind, so i would never leave my fuzzy/scaley kids behind.

only animals that wont leave are my fish, and thats cuz i cant move a 75 gallon fish tank in 2 minutes.

Lol, you are right. I have a 120 gallon reef tank, a 34 gallon AIO Red Sea Max, and a 65 gallon AIO Red Sea Max, and unfortunately, they wouldn't be moved quick enough in those circumstances. I would make sure to get my dogs, cats, dart frogs, reptiles, and kids.

I have always planned to put them in tshirts tied into sacs and get to the truck. From there i can get somewhere safe.

what are red sea max? is that a brand or something? :p
Id take my 7 chams, my dog, cat, RES turtle, and ferret. (i dont actually have human kids yet)

hmm snake bags. that might be good too. make life easier. instead of carrying a bulky bin.

Yep, my plan is to grab chams, wrap in shirts/blankets/whatever is closest, search under beds for the scaredy cat and grab the pug who will probably be pooping (stress pooper) and gtfo! The one cat and dog will already be out the door before that so luckily I won't have to worry about them. Turtles will just be shoved into pockets. With everyone to grab I doubt I'll have time to also get stuff together to put them in. It's a grab and go situation!

I think im going to get a bunch of snake bags and keep them next to the cages. thankfully my cat is easy to catch and my ferret is in a cage. (usually he is anyway)

grab the animals, a couple other small things.and like you said. GTFO!!
