egg laying bin???

I would like to know what kind of dirt or sand I should have in a egg laying bin for her to lay eggs in...... and if it should be at least 5 in deep?

I like to use moist sand and I usually have it around 6 inches deep.

Most people recommend about 10 inches deep and a play sand or organic fertilizer and perlite free soil. you can also mix the two or mix sand with bed a beast/coco husk.

It should be big enough for the female with a few inches to spare on all sides including above her.

what about just a non-fertilizer soil called "Pro-mix" ? good or no?

No because it has perlite in it.

I use sand (in the past I've also used a sand soil mix) that is at least 10" deep, preferably 12+" deep, and moist enough that a long tunnel (as long as she is at least) can be made without collapsing on her.

I use a Top Soil and Play Sand mix. I like a good amount of sand to soften the soil. The color should be greyish and it should hold a burrow. My animals don't lay in their cages, when it's time I put them in a 5gallon bucket full of the mixture with a screen top. They will dig to the bottom of the buck (around 1ft down) and lay their eggs. I have had good success with this! Good luck!
