Just thought I’d pass this on to whomever may be interested in ordering screen enclosures from diycages.com.

from their site:
TO OUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS:

STATUS OF FUTURE SCREEN CAGES:

AT THIS MOMENT THERE IS A WORLDWIDE SHORTAGE OF MATERIALS TO MAKE THESE CAGES. SHIPPING TO GET THE MATERIALS HERE HAS INCREASED BY 5 OR MORE TIMES OF WHAT IT WAS JUST A YEAR AGO. WE ARE UNABLE FOR NOW TO ABSORB THE COST. WE HOPE TO HAVE MORE UNITS READY AROUND AUGUST BUT THE PRICES WILL BE UNFORTUNATELY MUCH HIGHER.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND LOYALTY.

DIY CAGE CO FAMILY

Really kind of odd if you ask me... I wonder where they get their materials. DS has not increased prices nor has Zoomed. If their material cost is 5 times more what is that going to make their cage prices? I gotta say I would not pay much more then they were charging for their cages. They are not that fancy to begin with.

They may be larger and already bought materials. But I know wood is out of hand right now. $80 for a sheet of cheep plywood. I believe DS is US sourced. Reports I have read say the supply chain will balance out. That the issue was increased demand for raw supplies by DIYers during the pandemic, at the same time processing plants slowed production due to covid. Thus the imbalance. It concerns me as prices are not known for dropping once they rise. I have been looking for ways to produce inexpensive cages and right now I am stuck due to high prices.

Yeah I believe DS is US sourced. I am thinking DIY must source outside the US. I dunno. I understand due to covid. I know that wood is nuts right now. I paid 40 bucks for a 2x4 sheet of wood to go under Beman's cage and about died when I saw the price. I think all this is pretty nuts. I mean it needs to balance out. The world is back to work. At least for those actually going to work.

I make my own screen cages now. I get everything from Home Depot and pay half the price I would for a diy cage

Very nice! I’ve thought about doing this but my work space is very limited. Making it really difficult is every time I’ve been trying to align and spline screening, Beast dog or fat cat decide it’s the perfect time to get their human time in.

Totally understand my dogs and son do the same thing when I’m working on stuff. End up running around looking for my tools that him/dogs decided to take.

This is the Idea I am kind of looking at. I want to design something that anyone with a few tool can put together. Then just put out a shopping list and instructions. The trick has been finding ways so that any one can do it.
get the measurements exact is the hardest part Of course but once you get it down it gets easier. This was the second one I made, the first one was very lopsided 😅😅 you definitely need to right tools to get the job done

IDK exactly how Joxie411 does it, but this has been around for years.
There are 4 parts. Build to your own dimensions, but at least 24" x 24" x 48".
These frames are usually 5/16" x 3/4" but they also make 7/16".
I would get the largest you can find for strength & rigidity.

There is also apparently a 5/16" x 1" size made of a slightly heavier gauge of aluminum (.025" vs. .02") but may be more difficult to find.

How did u make it?
I bought this window frame maker, I bought 4 kits and I personally like the fiberglass screens better then the aluminum.
