Does this work and what do you use?

neat but imo un-nessasary..i just change my bulbs out every 6-9 months..seems to have worked for me for years..but would be cool to add another monotoring device (peice of mind) to your existing setup..hey, if its not too expensive get it..

Howdy Albert,

That little UVB sensitive "credit card" might be useful to give you an idea of a really high UV level but it won't help you with our type of UVB lights. A good Reptisun 5.0 linear tube will probably have a UV Index inthe 1-2 range which is below the scale of that gadget. We typically use the Solarmeter 6.2 to keep track of tube aging.

At $165, this is one of the better deals for it: http://www.pangeareptile.com/store/uv-meter.html

Among other uses, the reptile community across the world uses this one, so you'll have lots of keepers to compare notes with . I have one as do many other members here. It's not a mandatory thing to have. Just buy Reptisun 5.0 tubes, uses them 6"-12" away from the basking spot, and replace them after 6-12 months of use and you'll be ok.

(We can chat more about it at the next South Bay Chameleon Keepers meeting this Tuesday night! See you there.)
