Coccidia and Pin Worms

I need for someone to point me in the direction of some good info for these two things.

I searched the forums and found lots of threads with lots of posts. This is my first time dealing with both of these issues, so any info is much appreciated.

Best meds, how easily is it treated, is it hard to get rid of?

Thanks!!

Ponazuril for coccidia and Panacur for pinworms.
Steam cleaner that actually burst hot steam (hotter than 212 F to be effective) will be your best friend in cleaning the cage preventing the reinfection.

Yeah. Dr.Ivan Alfonso (Orlando, FL) works with The Chameleon Company and is a great Vet with a lot of experience with chameleons. You're in J-Ville so it would be a little bit of a drive, but may be worth it to you. If you want to go the natural way (Organics) you could try Reptaid. Elliot and Sandy from Chameleons Northwest work with this and have had great results!

If it's your first time dealing with this I would highly recommend going to see a good Herp Vet. Feel free to give me a call if you'd like as well. 239-560-5523

I use Dr. Alfonso and I'm 2 hours away. He's well worth the drive. He knows ALLOT about chameleons. His website: www.kirkmanareavet.com

I take my chams to Dr. Rossi at Riverside Animal Clinic. He is supposed to be very good. He treated Lil Will for calcium issues and everything worked out great.

If I don't like what I hear tomorrow, I will give Dr. Alfonso a call! :)

UPDATE: He was given Flagyl and Panacur at the vet. We were given Albon to medicate him at home. He had his first dose today. He flared up and opened his mouth wide and I was able to shoot it right in. Took about 30 seconds! :D

He'll go back every 2 weeks to repeat the Flagyl and Panacur.

Be aware that Albon can have serious negative side effect (loss of appetite).
Keep hydrating him a bit more than usual. Albon is a quite harsh medicine.

I am aware of that and concerned. I didn't want this particular med but the vet doesn't use the other. :( I am definately going to keep a close watch on him. He's not eating anyway, I'll do all I can!

Personally, I would not use the Albon. When Luie had coccidia......before the new drug Ponazuril came out, I gave him Albon. After the 3rd day on it he stopped eating. I eventually had to start force feeding. Then after his around of treatment, when I took him back to be re-tested......he still had the coccidia. I refused to give another round of Albon and I bought (Appertex) you do not need a prescription to get it. It is normally used to treat pigeons with coccidia (usually expensive racing pigeons). You can buy it here:

http://www.jedds.com/Products.asp?Ma...ategoryID=1457

http://www.globalpigeon.com/gps.php?...=showprod&id=6 (Appertex is about halfway down the page for $19.50)

It has no side effects and works great. One round of treatment and the coccidia was gone. If you decide to use the Appertex just pm me and I'll send you the dose instructions.
