Can you identify a plant?

Pickle-cham

Chameleon Enthusiast
Hi wanting some botanical help please. i have had this flowering plant for a number of years in my house long got rid of the card its the one on left (right us a Epippremnum aureumi purchased today for in a hanger maybe).
Well anyway it flowers a white lilly like flowers occasionally loves humidity as keep it in shower room (hence why im interested to add to my enclosure) but want to check if safe for chameleons.
I also intend to braid a ficcus tree in the lower section of the 2*2*4 reptibreeze xl.

So I don't know, maybe someone can answer this for me, but my understanding is philodendron contains the same oxalate 'toxins' as pothos. Both are toxic to humans and cats/dogs. I believe oxalates can cause gout-like symptoms and inhibit calcium absorption... would need to read more into it though

The flowers more like these though. The heart shape ones flowers don't look like when it blooms

Not a philodendron then lol... If a Veiled I go buy that link... But my guy eats his plants. Panthers don't eat plants but like James said don't use the toxic ones still. :)

And according to some ancient discussions on here not good contains oxylates, same discussions also list pothos bad too for same reasons though is this veiled only?

Yeah that is why I said go by what is on that link I gave you. I trust the ones he says are Veiled tested lol.

Downloaded a plant identifying app also thinks it philodendron, but when i google the flowers philos produce dont look right.

There is no reason of my knowledge to think pothos are harmless if philodendron are considered to be dangerous. Or Visa versa. Those plants being tested just means they haven't killed the animal upon eating or shown no noticeable signs. Oxalate damage would be long term. Not saying I think that happens, but a lot of people put out contradicting info.

And btw I think @Beman is right, pothos are probably safe. I just have a hang up with the whole concept of philodendron then even spinach being recommended against. Meanwhile, they have the same thing in them that is in pothos. One toxic, the other safe... huh? Maybe some scientists here can explain it to me lmao.

OP sorry I'm prob overcomplicating things... too much caffeine lol. With a panther you have nothing to worry about. My issue wasn't with anyone in the thread. I just find some of the advice from plant lists to not match up.

I can testify that pothos have not killed Beman yet... And he ravished his plants when he was young. Not as bad now but they are still his go to plant over anything else I have in there with him.
@jamest0o0 I never understood why one was "safe" and one wasn't either.... lol

Although both the plant identify app and Beman indicate it is philodendron type plant. But i have seen it flower and it is more like the anthurium and has large waxy white flowers when it does bloom. Anyways wont take any risks if i do get a veiled they wont be going in doesn't really have strength to hold up chameleon. So pothos is good? I have encountered it before in the tropical fresh water aquarium, needs no soil and can do wonders to nitrates. Also definitely poisonous for cats, dogs and children.

Agreed, wasn't trying to come at you. Just a confusing topic haha.

For whatever reason, veileds seem unbothered by pothos even though it carries toxins that bother other animals. Perhaps veileds have developed an immunity from plants in their natural habitat.

Ok cool as its my first purchase after cage and a bendable vine. Having trouble locating ficus locally atm though.

It's a bit hard for me to get a good look of the leaves because the way that the light is hitting in the photo, but based off what I can see and the flower that you have described, I'm thinking Anthurium vanilla. Maybe?
