hi guys
update on camilla we had a healthy clutch from her in nov which i have lost 4 eggs so far the rest are fine , well today as estimated she has began to dig again ready to lay , Question can i incubate in a poly box with no heat ??
im in the uk and have central heating on every day and night set on a thermostat at 20 deg c any advice info mucho appreciated in the process of getting the vermicalite and tubs ready

well she layed 61 eggs yesterday , so with the first batch and this we have had the grand total of 100

That's a large clutch! Producing large clutches is said to shorten a female chameleon's life.

You may want to feed her well for a couple of days and then cut her diet back and decrease the temp. by a degree or two to slow down the size of the clutch. Once you know she is working on the next clutch the diet can be increased a bit again. This works for me...and my veiled females live to be at least 6 years old as a rule.

As for incubating the eggs at that temperature...I have never done it so I can't tell you. How are you incubating the first clutch?

Good luck with the eggs! You are going to be very busy in a few months if they are all fertile!

thanks for the reply , we did cut down on her food intake and dropped the temp as you suggested then as she progressed we put the temp back up and fed her the normal amount she takes daily , i did up her calcium intake by adding it to the water as well as the food and she eats her live with wild rocket leaves very well , so im a bit puzzled as to the amount also , but her first clutch was only 39 so maybe shes catching up now lol , and yes if all are fertile we will be very busy with the little ones . the first clutch is in a home made incubator and are doing surprisingly well about 3 months on , but this one i have put into a poly box with a heat mat and stat so see how these go

One suggestion...don't place the container directly on the heat pad. I have a wooden frame that fits around the heat pad with screen over the wood frame to hold the container up off the heat pad. One reason I say this is that heat pads usually have variances in the heat over the surface and some eggs can get more heat than others. Raising the container off the pad gives a more even heat inside the container. Just my opinion.

yeh thanks , thats what i have done put two bits of timber in the poly box and put a sheet of perspex on top which the tubs sit on
