Yes, the hoppers molt. Each molt is a different growth stage. They have about 5 molt up to adulthood. I love the big head with the itty bitty wing pads.

The are very easy to care for. You can go with or with out substrate. Coco fiber, washed play sand or oat meal (I use whole oats) are good substrate materials. You can use a critter keeper, small reptibreeze, or 10 gallon aquarium or a plastic tote with a lid with holes. They don't require water. They eat romaine lettuce, dandelion, Collard, and mustard greens. You can gut load with Arcadia Earth Pro (becareful it has bee pollen). I use a heat lamp but it's not necessary. That's it. The poop is hard and dry. It looks like tobacco. If you have substrate you don't have to clean anything. I don't use substrate. I use my wet dry vac to vaccum to poop. The heat lamp probably helps them live longer. You can put branched in the feeder container if you like. I've used several enclosure. See below:

Venting! I currently have (what might be a) sick boy, Carmelo. Vet appointment scheduled. Today, while feeding Bolt I got hit in the face with grasshopper juice. I know better than to stand close while the boys are eating juicy bugs. Bolt only ate 1 grasshopper today. Yesterday, he ate 2 grasshoppers, 1 hornworm, 2 silk worms. I give him the worms followed by the grasshoppers. Once again, I ordered too many worms! I ordered 2 wormy packs from tcinsects. That's 50 silkworms and 50 hornworms at .56 cent per worm. Of course I'm not worried about the silkworms but the hornworms will get too big. Nevermind, I don't even know what I'm talking about. In the store, a 4 pack of hornworms cost 10.99. I usually buy 2 4 packs. That's 24.00 for 8 worms. Even though I have too many hornworms it was more cost effective to order 50. Guess I'll take the hornworns to my Vet.
He has a Blue Tongue Skink.

I'm sorry you are having a rough time. Hornworms are hard because they grow so stinking fast.
