Were in the midst of a mini ice storm. Lots of power out and roads are treacherous!!
I'm staying in with my critters, here are a few shots in my backyard..

We are just in the waiting for it to arrive up here in North Jersey - I got a few heat packs in case the power goes out (but since it didn't for sandy I'm hopeful ) I hope everyone made emergency plans in advance and I hope work is called off for tomorrow -

Hey kplatvoet,,, hope you guys dodged the icy bullet! Our roads were spared but the trees got it!

Are those iced crepe myrtles in your yard? Gorgeous :). Its too warm here in Florida to keep those. ;)

Thanks Michael!!! You are correct! Those are crape myrtles, they are my favorite shrub/tree! They grow here like weeds, make great chameleon branches too!!!

We have the standard "un-iced" versions here :D. Last time I went to Long Island I noticed a TON of them! Seems there are some very nice cold hearty versions now.

Even though the ice sucks, those pics are awesome.

I love to see ice covered trees and plants, even if i dont like the accompanying cold.

The ice looks beautiful in the pictures. I'm glad it was not like that when we were there. It's been in the mid 80's here this week.

Wow that is super cool :) I don't think I've ever seen that - even up here in AK! Just pure ice like that! We definelty get hoar frost on the trees but THAT is really cool!

Fab pics, but I can imagine it looks nicer than feels.lol.
Kath.

Thanks Kath, and your right, it's beautiful to look at but that's about it!!!

That's interesting Michael, I didn't know how far North they were native in the US.

Thanks Jessica, ice storms came produce beautiful photo opts,,,, the end results are sometimes not as welcome. Downed power lines and shattered trees are a common consequence...

I never saw them growing up, but the last time out to the wineries on the north fork there were some at every nursery and tons of them blooming in yards. Must be relatively new for those climates.

Very cool!!! They're an awesome addition to any landscaping, blooming early spring to early fall! Several different colors to choose from and relatively pest free, at least down here. As also mentioned, their limbs make great Cham branches!! When I trim my crepes I always save some of the branches for future free ranges or redecorating cages.. I love them!!!!
