He shed "about a week ago" and got some nice light blues. It thought it ought be normal but since it was so dark colors and he was in has pjs I was worried
My male veiled chameleons light went off an hour ago and I walked in and saw these weird colors on his casque. The picture may not show but the dark part is actually almost black. I am worried so if you have any ideas what it means that would be great

You should not be using substrate anyway. It harbors bacteria and encourages mold growth. It could also impact you cham if it accidentally are some of it. Most people use a bare bottom or just use papers towels.
Unless you cage gets really cold at night you should not need one. It is healthy to have a drop in temps at night. You don't need it unless it gets below 60 you and even then a little bit colder is ok depending on the species of your chameleon
Also for the past month or so he has been really dark. It may be the new hamster I got so I moved it today. Hope that's why he's dark and not a husbandry issue

Yeah the only fishing supply stores we have here are Scheels and a few Isles in Walmart. Other than that we always buy our bait at gas stations. Will have to look around this summer to try to find a store that sells them. I do plan on catching some bugs this summer so that is one thing to look...
