Poppi and Prometheus are both past the one year old mark! Yay!

Poppi is doing much better now. No lasting issues after the egg laying. I upped her calcium for 2 weeks but she is back to her regular supplement schedule. Her eyes are both clear and seem to be working fairly well. Thank goodness. She was keeping that one eye closed for so long I was...

Poppi is a big girl now!

At a year and a month, Poppi laid 34 eggs! So we have survived the egg laying, so far... She has not been doing as well as I could hope. She has been to the vet because she is keeping one eye closed all of the time. Doc thinks maybe she got some sand in it and that it got a bit infected...

Comment by 'HolyToledo' in 'How to secure against cats'

Wonderful blog! Most kitties are definitely dangerous for our other critters and there have been so many sad stories. I am very lucky that my kitty not only isn't a threat to my chams, she is a threat to anyone who tries to get too close to HER chams. :) I am allowed to take care of them but...

Comment by 'HolyToledo' in 'At 8 months, they are still growing up nicely?'

Thanks all :) Prometheus' big "cage" has been very entertaining and educational. My current project: How do people who free range their chams make sure they get enough water? Poppi and I have a few laying bin issues. I am starting a thread hoping for some input and ideas. Poppi has had...

At 8 months, they are still growing up nicely?

Even Poppi was standoffish and blew up like a balloon when I put my hand in to offer her range time. So I just had to take a pic of her all puffed up. Figured out why the crankiness: As you can see, in the second picture, she doesn't look nearly as fat or gravid. I am worried...

Comment by 'HolyToledo' in 'A baby step has been made in the "taming" of Prometheus!'

overall, we have maintained a little of the progress. he is no longer making the quick dives into the brush at the first sight of us. so, maybe things will get better over time. we can only hope and be patient . :)

Just what I figured. He is back to his normal today. :(

A baby step has been made in the "taming" of Prometheus!

It was only a "standoff" but even that much is great progress as far as this guy is concerned. This is the most untrusting, anti-social, and just downright mean chameleon that I have ever heard about. I have given up on socializing this little guy. I would someday, however, like to be able...

Comment by 'HolyToledo' in 'The Taming of the Chameleon'

WOOOO HOOO!!! Your students, Prometheus and I, have made some, slight progress! We had our first "stand-off"! That is drastic progress for this boy. Usually if we get within 5 feet of his viv, he is diving for the bushes. So, thanks for the advice. It is taking forever but 9mos. old is...

I can't believe how much they have grown!

Poppi is 6 months old now so it was time for another weigh-in: 74 grams! That is a 13 gram increase in one month. It just seems like they both got huge in the last 30 days... :) Here is Poppi one and a half months ago: And here she is today: Big difference, huh...

Poppi is Miss Piggy in disguise!

After the huge intake of food I posted yesterday, I figured that the babies wouldn't eat very much today. Yeah, right! Prometheus lived up to my expectations. He only ate a couple of crix and 4 mealies. Reasonable, right? Not Poppi! She ate 6 crix and 15 mealies! What a pig. But, I...

Geez! How much is too much? (food)

Attitudes are still improving (only slightly with Prometheus) but their appetites are getting rediculous! I got my hands on some dubia that are small enough (thanks allthingsreptile) and put 6 in each of their bowls. Got home from work and nothing was missing! Left them there hoping they...

Comment by 'HolyToledo' in 'Rep points'

Plus, if you got all the rep points I have tried to give (and I'm sure there are more than just me trying), your whole background would be little green squares! Your info is awesome and I refer people to your stuff all the time. I just can't say how much better Twister's life was after I found...

Comment by 'HolyToledo' in 'Rep points'

One of the problems with rep points is that you can only give so much to one person in any given time. There have been times that I found your info very informative and helpful but it has been too soon since the last rep + so by the time i "spread" rep pts. elsewhere, I have been too distracted...

    Sunshine!

Poppi loves being in the window! (Open, 2nd story window with secure screen.) It took a few times of being there but she is finally relaxing and starting to just hang out. Once in awhile a delivery truck or something will go by and stress her out a bit but she just goes and hides behind the...

    Updated photos to show growth

Just posted the first and last pictures in the general photography thread so everyone can see how much they have grown! Of course Prometheus was up to his old tricks and hiding behind the vine! LOL So, I waited for him to come back up and stuck my hand and the camera in with him really quick...

    Poppi is thriving! Prometheus, well...

Poppi is gorgeous and growing like a weed. This week she even started cup-feeding! WooHoo! And, no, I didn't have to make her go hungry to get her to. Patience and perseverance finally paid off. Every day when I put food in her bowl, I hold it up to her, where she can see what goodies are...

    Attitudes!

I have heard some stories about how attitudes change when chams go through "puberty". If Prometheus' attitude gets any worse, I am afraid he is gonna start biting himself! He is the most vicious little critter I have ever seen or heard of. I am even going to move his cage again to see if that...

Comment by 'HolyToledo' in 'So far, the Mercury-Vapor bulb is okay'

I did end up raising the light up so that it is about 10inches above their cages. It shines out farther around and Poppi is still right up as close to the corner basking most of the day. Prometheus seems to enjoy it now that the light is a bit more diffused and shines in a wider pattern. He...

So far, the Mercury-Vapor bulb is okay

I was kind of worried that the MVB would be too strong for the babies. After some research, I ended up putting it about 6 inches above their cages so that it shines down into both of them. Poppi loves it and is right up as close to the top as she can get. Prometheus spends some time up at...
