I'll chime in here and agree with all of the above. I emailed Todd to figure out what I would need and he responded with so much information! Very helpful, but I was initially shocked at the price. (See, I come from the snake world...lighting is not needed so I had NO idea). After thinking about...
Hey Todd,
lights arrived today in great condition! Thank you! This question is moot for me since I went with the quad T5 HO lights from your place, but it's good info for anyone who might have the same question.
Just as an FYI: Having worked at the UPS hub here in Louisville and at the FedEx sort here, I can tell you that stickers on a box doesn't mean a thing. This end up? Yeah..I have seen them upside down.
Loaders don't look at any sticker but one and that's the address where it's going. Packages...
Looks good. I have a couple of questions though:
I read where lights, especially basking, shouldn't rest on the top of the cage in case the chameleon crawls up there. Perhaps someone else with more experience can chime in, but just a thought.
Also, it looks like the top mesh is wet, probably...
So I have went ahead and ordered the quad T5 HO lights from lightyourreptile and a misting system by CliMist. Once I get those set up and running, I'll request my new panther cham. :)
In the market for my first chameleon. Thinking about a veiled, but looking at the care sheets here, it says Panthers are novice ones too.
So, are panthers as "easy" to keep as veileds?
What differences are there, other than humidity?
If I was to use a handheld sprayer, how many times should...
I have probably 5-6 18" fluorescent light fixtures that I got from Lowe's awhile ago. Would it be ok to use say 2-3 of them on my cage until I can afford a nice big one?
Thanks everyone for the responses. Lots of information to digest and learn!
Oh, and I forgot to address the price of the veiled. There is someone fairly local to me that breeds and sells them. Now that I think about it, they may be $60.
Well, I guess I had sticker shock, but after working all day I realized that it's something that I have to do if I want to have a chameleon.
Here's my cage. I bought two pothos to get them started. I would like to get a ficus tree. I have it in my reptile room in the basement. Temps stay around...
So I thought that I really wanted to get a veiled chameleon as my first chameleon. I got the cage (30hx30dx18w) and then I looked into lighting...ouch.
Talk about expensive! I am seriously reconsidering getting one. I know I got too big of a cage, and maybe that's what I need to change, but I...
I'm no expert by any means, but I would think that you would still need to sterilize. Even though it's cold out, the bugs go into hibernation and once you introduce the stick into a warm environment I would think that they would emerge.
But that's just my opinion.
