Petsmart: I've had enough

Yesterday I was in petsmart for supplies (unfortunately.)
They have a male jacksons chameleon in a completely inadequate enclosure, complete with water bowl and improper supplementation. I talked to the store manager and got nowhere since she said that they do everything properly for the animal and cooperate tells them how to keep them. Is there anyway we could all get a petition going or something to make it illegal for petsmart to carry chameleons until they're properly cared for? Maybe we could file it under animal abuse. This male jacksons ALREADY had a respiratory infection since he was gaping and had thick mucus. And he couldn't get closer than 12 inches to a uvb bulb that was on the other side of thick mesh.

It's unacceptable. Plain and simple.

there should be somthing that can be done..if the employees are told to blatantly do something wrong because of a stubborn policy, somthing should be changed..they are abusive to animals in the aspect that their policy is to keep the animals in harsh set up environments..by law i believe that they HAVE to follow certain guidelines to the safe and secure keeping of whatever animal they sell, and i believe are also required to have at least one knowledgeable employee to care for the said animal..where do we go to sign a petition, or who do we call to have someone go do a "check up" on their cages and keeping methods..obviously the chams are cared for innappropriatley and are there to just make a sale..under fed, under watered, and kept in a horrible environment not suitible to the animals..

I don't know who to call. Maybe I could get animal control to confiscate abused animals.

thats a good start!!! you need evidence, and maybe other petitioners (all of us on here to sign something)

Yes. I definitely have evidence, lol. I'll start taking pictures every now and then and keeping logs on the care. And a petition sounds good.

Find a reputable publication that talks about the care of jacksons as a start. Take it into the store. Perhaps there is a reptile vet in the area that can back you up. Then you can go to the authorities to report them.

We had the same thing a few weeks back but our experience was with PETCO.
We have given up with Petsmart and DON'T ever go in the shop.
The experience with PETCO was completely different. We went in and again it was a Jackson, Sat asleep on the wood chip floor, next to his water bowl, probably about 16-18" away from the light. with it bowl of nearly all dead meal worms, that looked un-dusted. No vines
We spoke with someone there and asked who decides the environment, the worker replied "oh our reptile specialist", we said how poor their specialists is at their job then. Then told them how distressing it was, as Chameleon keepers and breeders to see such a tank and poor animal. This worker then tried telling us how the Cham had been doing well.....lol poor thing is asleep, tail laid out, looking like it was dead

This bothered us so much that the next day we went back after downloading a care sheet. We went in and to our surprise there had been vines put in the tank, the Cham still laid sleeping on the floor. We asked to see the Manager, the same person we had spoken to the night before was brought to us lmao.

She explained how she couldn't take the water bowl out as people would complain....anyway cut a long conversation short...she gladly accepted the printed information...asked us questions and was very accommodating.
We came out, knowing it was too late for the Jackson Cham but hopeful that Manager will sort that store out at least
