He keeps it closed but when it is open, it is bloodshot. You can see the eye but it looks like there is blood between the layers of his eye. I am going to put a higher watt bulb in one of the basking lamps. Correct on the Calcium/Calcium-D3 and correct on the 1.8/1.3.

I have 2 hibiscus' for my veileds cage. I usually keep one out so it will grow while the other is demolished by him. I just switched the plants out and no more than a minute after this happens to the beautiful flowers on the plant....

it really depends on the distance from the bulb rather than the wattage. try different wattage bulbs to get the proper basking temp at the spot directly under the light. Since it is a young veiled, I would aim for the low 80s at the basking spot.
