Breeding experience with Furcifer minor

Hello everyone,

I would try to breed Furcifer minor. Everyone has the minors, should try to breed this endangered species to protect. :)
Therefore I would like to ask whether there are people that have bred Furcifer minor, and what experiences you could collect.

Minimum size / age of the female at first mating, etc.

The female is born at 08/10. She started about 3 weeks, recolor. The femalesize KRL 7cm.
I think in any case too small for the first mating.

Sorry, for my bad english ;)

Greetings Timo

One of my breeding pair. Not so good, but at least try some.

Furcifer minor is a beautiful species. The jewels of nature. :D

Hi Timo,

Nice to see you on this forum.
You did very well growing them up, around 11 months till adulthood as do my own.

For me also it is still hard, for the females not to go eggbound. (all the rest is relatively easy with this species, mating, incubation (8 degrees/6weeks))
A female from the same clutch as you bought from me also got the adult coloration this week. She is same size, and still to small as well i think, with a very high chance of going eggbound.

My best female ever was 23 cm. (larger then litarature mentions) she gave 3 clutches. around 17-18 cm total length half of my females died going eggbound, and half survived.

This year my first 2 clutches have been unfertilized, they had been with young males, which head bobbed but did not mate, and both females produced eggs anyway. 1 died, 1 layed them nicely into the ground. sofar i never expierienced a minor scattering the eggs, they lay them nicely burried or die on the branch full with eggs.

Eggs cutted out from females that died, hatched still very well.

Roughly around November +- 1 month, when daylight/temps get lower i would expect your male stops wanting to mate, then you will might need to wait till even somewhere june next year.

It is a tough decission, if you mate her now most likely scenario (no hard science here) is 1 clutch and dead female. waiting till next year you will have a strong female ready for multiple clutches, but you never know in winter time or something happens...

I second that!

I guess that chance is small, as i see now.
Since its not that one will easily breed many of them, like with pardalis, due to mortality rate of pregnant females.
They are easily sold here as well. but never say never...

First let me focus on getting this year cycle round again with a few clutches.
