My most recent attempt to get Shayna well was a weekend attempt to make her a laying bin that she might use.
I put a large plastic rectangular tub of soil and sand just below the bottom access of her cage. The substrate is about 8", I planted a pot of philo at the far end, and put two branches from her cage down into the bin.
I figured that she'd find her way down if she wanted, but put her in anyway, hoping that she'd find her way around. The cup of Phoenixes was eaten, and she was in the philodendron by the evening.
In the morning she was seen on the branches to the cage, and seen when she fell. She was 1/3 across the room (with the birds casually watching from their cages) when I rescued her and put her in her cage. The bottom entrance was still opened to the bin.
The next thing I know she's out the bottom, and over beneath Mort's cage. Mort, being a good neighbor, came down to investigate, and Shayna turned into the Wicked Witch. This experiment did NOT go as planned. Now they are both in their own cages, closed in, and I'm rethinking the laying bin design.
