Would you mind sharing pictures of your cham homes

Hi everyone

I'm having made a 36" x 18" x 48" mesh cage made for my yemen chameleon Burt.

I've been hunting around for pictures to give me some inspiration of how to do his cage once it arrives.

I guess its been asked a million times before but i wondered if anyone would mind sharing their pictures. :D
 
That is great, I have been shadowing this forum for a few months in preparation of getting a 2nd chameleon, my first was a veiled that I had for about 3 years before finding a new home for when I moved to northern BC, Canada.

I would love to have one post to check out people's enclosures, I am planning on either this spring/next spring getting either a panther or a jackson's, depending on what is available probably, rather than personal preference! :D I am currently 5 months pregnant, so am probably going to hold off until next spring when I am settled in a bit more with baby. I plan on getting a beardie at the same time, so I can have just the one size of crickets that will grow with them, and I have long term plans of breeding roaches/hornworms or possibly silks due to the difficulties I am sure to have getting crickets. Also do rather hate them from past experience, chirpy stinky buggers.

Love those two setups, and love this forum as well it's been great so far!!!

dodolah, I really like your drainage system.
I always had wondered how exactly the easiest way to go about drainage would be. and that seems the best, just to have a metal grate type of stand and a Tupperware underneath to catch the water. Seems a lot simpler then others.
 
Alright, update photos of the rack. This is it when first built:

Each cage now.

Genmaicha's...which needs changed around for a larger cham (my male carpet used to be in here and I haven' redecorated yet.) It looks weird because I used flash.

Matcha's....looks nice how the pothos has grown in. The pic makes it a little chaotic, but it has defined "highways" in it.

Darjeeling's.....the stubby hibiscus in the front is making a recovery. It isn't usually in his cage- it just needed some light.

Kukicha's....she likes hiding in her plants. You can see the laying bin in the back. She is hiding in the pothos.

The chaotic Melleri cage. It has hibiscus that are trying to take over, despite cutting them weekly. They are trying to get more light and are very tall and gangly. My little melleri is very good at hiding in this cage and I usually have to look for a bit before finding him.

You'll notice what I do differs a fair bit from the norm on this forum. Most of my panthers shun plants, preferring to stay in the open spaces (so I give them more open space than planted space). I dont like screen cages.

I just want to stress the fact that Sandra's enclosure have many ventilation holes and screen top. That in itself ensure the air flow well.

thanks :) just dont look too closely or you will see that I am a crappy carpenter.

You're right, lots of holes for ventilation and there is air movement in the room. I also dont use an automatic misting system, so I dont have drainage issues to worry about rotting the floors

A downside of my cages is its hard to free-range insects. I cup feed 75% of the time, and I stick around anytime I let the insects wander around to ensure nothing escapes (luckly everyone eats quite well in front of me except one, and I know how to fool him into thinking Im not watching)

I killed all my pothos in my cham's cage but all my hibiscus thrive like that.
in fact, I have one that grow more than 4.5 feet outside.
Cannot put it in the cage anymore. It become the plant for my chams to hangout when they are sunning outside.

Idk what did i do to those plants. It seems that there is something about pothos that disagree under my care.:confused:
I am now trying to propagate one pothos from my neighbor by cutting the vine and putting it in the jar of water. Let see if I kill that too..

I killed 3 of them already under my care. :eek: kinda embarrassing :eek:

But I have 7 hibiscus that i purchased 2.5 years ago and still thriving. With one grow too big for its cage.. i got 4 dwarf umbrella trees. 1 grow too big as well.
I got blackberry and mulberry that I plant when they are just dormant sticks.
They thrive as well.
I put some earthworms inside of the pot.

And, then after that, I just gave up on pothos :rolleyes:
 
Frans, you can prune the heck out of your hibiscus and keep them in the cages. It actually makes them grow better.
 
Can never get enough of peoples setups!!:)
