Zee Died

Hey all I know I haven't been on in a while it's been quite with Zee, but last week he decided to go through a growth spurt a major shed well the shed took over a week a for a few days he could not open his mouth,Yesterday morning he ate some crickets and he seemed fine until around 5pm. then he was hanging upsidedown on a vine. i took him off and put him at the bottom of the cage he was very pale, but breathing very shallow. i was misting him and watching him. i just found him dead in his cage. he had had such a tough life to start, starting as a runt and backwards. As of May 9, 2010 he was 16 months old and 9 1/2" long. He was just starting to show his pattern.
 
Sorry for your loss-it is really hard to lose them. Planning on doing a necropsy? I would love to know if he was actually a she.
 
Connie I'm sorry for your loss of Zee. He was a unique cham that was very loved. :(

Julirs that was a cruel remark about the necropsy at this point.

Why exactly is it cruel to want to learn things? Really?

This cham obviously had some issues and the owner did their best with this chameleon, but for others to learn things in this hobby is truly very important.

Connie-I never meant to hurt your feelings, but this was a very interesting case with this Veiled.
 
No and he was a boy his spurs were more pronounced. the reason for not doing an autopsy is we also just put one of our dogs to sleep 3 weeks ago so this was a little painful to handle. My sister-in law is here right now visiting and she had chameleons, she is the one who gave him to us she told me his dad acted the same way one time like he was going to die and then he came around. so I just kept misting him and watching him yesterday and today and then i looked in and saw that he was dead. I'm thinking maybe because last week when he could not eat or drink when his mouth was shut it might have weakened him to much. He could barely walk either last week from the growth spurt and shed.
 
Sorry for your loss. I would get a necropsy done (if possible) so you can leanr if it was husbandry related or not. Plus, it might help with your next Cham. Maybe his insides were malformed because he was a runt. It would probably help other as well. I also have a 'runt' and am very curious about this Cham.

I am really unsure of why he could not open his mouth? Sounds like last week he was just going down hill. Sorry about your dog, I completely understand that pain. You did the best you could.
 
When I looked at him last week his mouth was literally sealed shut from the skin, but once he could open it he started to eat and drink. He did have a deformity on his upper lip but that never bothered him, one of his siblings had a worse one, it was like a hair lip. We buried him already, sorry about not doing a necropsy but we did not really want him in the house when our children came home and I really did not was to disect him. I wanted to remember him how he was. how old is your runt pssh? We might some day, I would like to he was fun to have.
 
11 months. He is a panther though. He seems like he will end up being normal sized, but who knows.
 
Hopefully he will grow to normal size, but if for some reason he does end up having problems enjoy every day with him and try to make his days seem special to him, I did that with Zee. He grew very slow and I would go up to his cage every day and talk to him a little and when I took him out to feed him his worms I would tak to him all the time. My daughters thought I was nuts because they knew he had no ears, I always told him so what if he can't hear me, I want to talk to him.

Chams are special and I think they do have feelings just like all living creatures. He knew you were his caretaker and how much you loved him no matter his issues. :)
