Will these cages work?

Believe it or not I have a Zoo Med that has been outside for a year and been in use for about 1.5 and Ive had no problems with it.

Thanks! Actually I was planning on stacking cages, as I want to own 3 pairs of panther chams. 1.1 Nosy Mitsio, 1.1 Nosy Faly, and 0.1 Ambulobe for my male.

I guess I wasn't clear when I said 'stacking'... lol So I just want to clear this up. when I said 'stacking' I don't mean literally cages on top of one another. I am not saying you implied that you were going to do that, but because I got a vibe and then read my own post again, I want to make sure I am not giving the wrong idea. When I mean stacking I mean setting up a rack that holds cages in two rows per column of cages.

I guess I thought I took a better picture..... But this isn't showing exactly what I wanted to show. This is a rack of mine that holds 'stacked' cages. At the time of the photo I didn't have cages on the bottom half of the rack. But if you look at how close the cages are to the ceiling you can get an idea for how high cages are.... and get an idea for how much room is on the bottom for another set of cages. I even have room for drainage :)

They are 2x2.5x1.5 feet.

These two cages house my female veiled and female ambilobe.

The idea is that there is room underneath for hatchling and juvi cages/tubs.

edit: There is a big pot of dirt in the cage on the right because I found Marge digging in her scheflera plant pot.

Thats why im going to try screencages.net . Cages are priced higher but it looks to be better quality product. And offers different sized screen options.
Howdy,

Did you mean http://cages.net/ . They have the neat 1/8"x1/8" optional (no charge) enamel(?) coated, aluminum screen that no one else seems to offer. I have one of those in the 2x2x4 size and I really like it. It is especially useful if you have a large species and it has the (bad) habit of crawling on the screen. With the larger screen pitch, there is much less chance of loosing a toenail. The 1/8"x1/8" screen is just a little bit too large to keep in the typical commercial housefly though .

1/8"x1/8" screen:

Typical 1/16"x1/16" coated aluminum screen:

Both screen pitches use the same gauge wire. It's the weave that is different. Also note that the crosspoints are "softer" feeling on the 1/8" screen.

LOL, thanks, I new what you meant by "Stacking". 'm thinking I'll go with the 2x2x3 foot cage, as it makes more sense for me. Also, where do you get the racks you use?

Yeah dave thats the cage site i was refering too. Is the 1/16th large enuff for an adult panther to comfortably climb on without getting toenails caught?
I will buy the larger screen if you think thats the route to go. i have no prob with not being able to feed flies. I have focused on other types of feeders. Dubias, crix, horns, silks, etc.. Will I have to cup feed if i go with the larger size? Btw sorry to thread jack.

Howdy,

I think the 1/16" screen, which is pretty much the industry standard, is prone to snagging toenails while the 1/8" is not. I wish LLL Reptile and others had a 1/8" option but they don't :(. The www.cages.net (also found as www.screencages.com) enclosures are probably 25% more expensive and their shipping (nice crate-like wood box) costs more too. But that optional 1/8" screen is really nice :).

Thank you Dave, Ive been going back and forth on my next cage. You just sold me on these. Im going to put my male in the new cage and put my female faly in his old LLL cage for now til she gets much larger. Then use that one for an outdoor cage.
I wish LLL had a screen size option and a door handle. I got one but havent installed it yet. Also wish the cage was a little bit sturdier and didnt shake when opeing the door. But for a mass produced enclosure its a good design.

Howdy All,

Whoever is talking with www.cages.net, check if they still charge extra for the optional bottom access door. They used to charge around $25 for it but I seem to recall that they may have made it standard.

LOL what do ya want Dave? The free upgraded screen or the bottom access door? Ya can't have your cake AND eat it ;) :D ;) :D

Personally... I didn't even know these guys talked...... I wrote them an email and never heard back. I wanted an estimate on a large cage. I'll just talk to Mr. Ed next time....

i haven't been able to get a good look at the locks/clasps on the screencages.com enclosures...
does anyone know what they look like, got a pic??

thanks,, lisa
