Just got a fecal done and the vet said my Mt Meru Jackson WC has hook worms. Anyone know what kind of medicine will get rid of them? The vet will not tell me anything unless I bring the cham in and pay $76 more. Please help!

Howdy,

Hookworms are treated with Panacur (Fenbendazole). Per the Klingenberg book, it is dosed at 25-50mg/kg orally, daily for 3-5 days and repeat in 10 days. Panacur is pretty safe and effective. It is spe'd for treating most all nematodes with very few, if any, side effects :). You can buy it from a number of "over-the-counter" suppliers including LLL Reptile.

You may not earn any points with your vet (without their approval) if you go off and buy your own supplies and follow others' dosing instructions :o. So just be aware that on your next trip back to the vet, you may get a cold shoulder .
