Why the sudden change in freindship?

All of a sudden as soon as I'm back as was away for the weekend my full grown veiled is being stroppy towards me when I go near her and really puffing up but without colour change, what's this behaviour change all about???
????????????????

I hear its just a defence reponse they just dont want to be bothered for example females do that to a male if she is already gravid with eggs with someother chameleons babys so to tell him shes pregant shell do that to him to let him know I dont need you fool! lol. They just do it to tell you to leave me alone most chameleons are display lizards so shouldent be handled to often. This is my opinion but should ask others. I read this in a book you should find one for yourself could answer alot of questions you have.

Could she be getting ready to shed? If she's usually friendlier, then she might just be in a bad mood because of shedding. Or did something spook her? Is there something new in her room or something today that maybe is putting her off?

I have a female veiled that usually loves me and loves being out and on my shoulder, but she'll puff up if I'm trying to bring her back inside from hanging out in the sun or something. It's like "nooo mommy, nooo!" Hopefully she doesn't stay angry for long!

:)

Yeah she is normally real friendly, iv never seen her puff so big and rock back and forth, quite intimidating and inknow that's the desired effect. I was away Friday to Sunday eve and in that time my bro approached the cage with red clothing on and according to him she didn't like it, iv had a big container for her to dig if she needs to, I'm hoping it's because she gravid, but she still eats from my hand,.
Maybe she just grumpy today???
I mean most of the time I put my hand in and she just climbs on without thought.

...................:)

P.s I hope she isn't going to stay grumpy!!!! Unsure if she's going to shed as don't know what to look out for

I don't know when mine are going to shed either! lol Geckos turn white for days before they shed, but with mine there is no difference until suddenly you walk back into the room 20 mins later and they're pealing. Is she still angry with you?

Chameleons are affected by the colors we wear and the patterns on our clothes...shedding can make them grumpy, but they can also get that way when they are gravid. Males often pick up attitude when they reach sexual maturity. Each chameleon is an individual...just like all other animals including humans...and we just have to accept them for what they are generally.

That's what I thought, too, when I saw your question, dropanuke.

That you probably changed something about your appearance. New shirt? New glasses? New hairstyle?

Or, that you missed her, and were glad to see her, and so you approached her a little too quickly and too boldly perhaps, in your excitement to see her again and your desire to check her out to see how she was doing.

Remember, the veileds are a solitary species that like to command their own space. She spent the weekend alone, which would have been restful and natural for her. She is training you. This has happened to me. Sometimes they make us take a few steps back in our relationship with them and approach them slowly and meekly for a bit, in drag garb, to re-win their confidence and trust.

One way to regain the relationship is to win her over with special new feeder bugs or worms. Something big. (Kind of like bringing flowers and chocolates to mend a human relationship :).) It's a type of positive reinforcement that works very well with chameleons.

@olimpia

yes she is abit grumpy, i noticed she briefly rubbed her left nostril on her vine before eating a water filled spinach leaf
