Why I love dubias

Step 1-- Keep dubias in a cup overnight w/out food
Step 2-- add your wet gutload
Step 3-- wait an hour for them to devour it all!!!!
Step 4-- Chameleon FEAST!!!!!!! (fit for chameleon kings...) :D

I love it when the gutload oozes out!!!!!!! :) Do you dubia?

**I'd love to see photos of some absurdly large colonies**

just started keeping/breeding them about a month ago..have plenty of babies..have to say, my crickets have never smelled..or just slightly..they are also just a slight smell (maybe im used to crickets) but these things smell like ass , like a roach should smell so no complaints there, but you all said they have no smell. well..my crickets have no smell these do..not sure why:eek:

what are you feeding them? my colony doesn't stink... maybe your food smells bad?

and crickets smell.. i think your nose is on the fritz.

and cami-- get some dubias. they are the best!
 
no roaches)- i live in an apt... no raoches! i havae soo many other bugs.
and unless my cricket gutload molds, i never get a cricket smell either.
i keep silks, horns, pheonix, wax, butter, supers, and crickets.
my cricket bin doesnt smell.

i like them. i can touch crickets. cant touch roaches.
andi cant think of bringing them on purpose into my house.

ntm i think the hubby may kill me.

seriously.my crickets have never smelled (i have lots of ventilation, and have lil or no dead) and all i smell is the fresh rosemary i put in there..i feed dry gutload, veggie mix (dandelion, greens, carrot, sweet potato, ect ect) and bug burger..

water is in a shallow dish with cotton balls (that are removed when they yellow)..basically just added these guys to the bin (separated, ofcourse) and i cant smell anything from either unless you stick your face in there, but my crickeys are like a light b.o. (bum crotch) LOL, but the roaches just smell like ass, like just sweaty b.o. ass..these thing are soo nasty, and hell no they dont look like rollie pollies!!!! if my chams didnt require them ied freeze them and toss em out!!!!:D

and i actually have an intense sence of smell, im always smelling stuff no one else does..
 
if they randomyl showed up, then yes id probably feed them off, and even cosnidere breeding them., but i wont pay for them! lol
 
I have yet to keep dubias but I can say crickets smell, they bite, and I always lose a few every few days. The problem I'm having with my Chameleon is they get loose in the cage, hide, then come out at night and maul him. I've had to start squishing all the uneaten crix I couldn't catch to avoid attacks.

Dubias as far as I know don't bite, are slower, can't climb glass or escape as easily. As soon as I convince my wife they aren't real roaches I'm getting a colony.

My dubia dont smell either.
My crickets do, but not bad if I keep it cleaned out.
I stole sdheli420's fresh rosemary idea, it works great!
Any small smell that might be there it pretty much cuts it out, just have to replace it every few days.;)

just call them beetles!
 
Dubia are awesome! So easy to take care of. Almost 0% die-off rate and much better meat to chitin ratio. No smell, no noise, no hassle. They are much better than crickets IMO, too bad my chams all prefer crickets. :cool:
