Who passes on the color gene?

I've just been wondering about passing on color. Who is more responsible for doing it, the male or female? I've heard a lot of it comes from the dams side of the family. But then I see a lot of juvis that look like their sire recreated.

Anybody got any thoughts or ideas on the subject?

Thanks,, lisa

It depends upon the dominant and recessive traits that sire and dame carry. It's quite complex and there is never a guarantee that the offspring will look like the sire or the dame's sire. Your best bet is to research past clutches from the breeding pair and the siblings of the breeding pair to increase the chance of producing a desired trait in future offspring.

I know that they both play a part in it but I just thought I'd read something to the effect that a "better" part of it was actually determined by the dams sure...

Just curious..... Thanks, lisa
