What's in your Library?

I have this obsession with collecting these books, even if I know that there is very little new information for me to know from them, but sometimes the photos alone make the purchase worth it. So, heres my reptile library, with a couple animal books with reptile related information and chapters.

I thought it would be fun to share, so post your own list or just your favourites. My votes for "Must Have Books" are denoted in black text.

Hey Will,

I've had the same obsession for a long time too. It's too bad we don't live closer together. I've got a couple of things off the top of my head to add to your list. I've never considered making a complete list, though.

Books:
Masters Of Disguise by James Martin with photos by Art Wolfe. If you can find this one, it is well worth it for the photos!
The two part AVS Chameleon set by Philippe de Vosjoli. Recommended incubation temperatures for pardalis : 80-82 degrees :D
The New Chameleon Handbook by Le Berre.
Chameleons by Claudia Schnieper. A kid's book, but worth it for the pics
Guide To East African Reptiles by Stehpen Spawls, et al.
Madagascar: A Natural History by Ken Preston-Mafham
I also used to have that AVS book with the 4 species profiles by Ferguson, Kalisch, etc...it seems to have walked off on it's own however

As for magazines articles, I won't even get into the scholarly articles I've started collecting....From industry sources, I've got every Vivarium issue with chameleon articles, all of the Reptiles Magazine issues that have articles about chameleons other than veileds, and a few Reptilia magazines from Europe. Also have all the CIN journals from #9, which was the first to actually have articles, to the last.

I also have a big framed reprint of the painting "Fifteen Chameleons" by urrrrgh, can't remember. I started that sentence as if the name would just come to me :confused:....It's out in storage right now....My favorite works are a couple paintings of parsonii and pardalis by a Malagasy artist that Ardi gave me though.

Almost forgot my wishlist:
I still need to get a copy of the Glaw and Vences field guide to Madagascar.

Russell Pearl, MD! Thanks Will, I was thinking Russ something, but it just wouldn't come to me!

Howdy,

A couple of books that I've got that are not on the list so far...

"Chameleons: Johann Von Fischer and Other Perspectives"
by James B. Murphy ISBN 0-916984-66-4
Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles 123 pages
Herpetological Circular No. 33

"Reptiles & Amphibians Visual Guide" ISBN 4-416-70419-4
It's 99% written in Japanese. I can't even read the author's name .
128 pages with lots of great photos. I'm not sure where the amphibians are since it looks to be 100% chameleons :).

Hehe, I knew you would be posting Dave.

Where did you find the Japanese book? I have always had a bit of interest in asian chameleon keeping methods.

It was a combined effort between Leann and I...and needs some updating...which I hope will happen soon. Some of the books are quite pricey....but well worth it.

...Where did you find the Japanese book?...
Howdy Will,

I spotted it at last year's NARBC show in Anaheim California. He's the same guy that I bought the Necas books from years before. He's one of the major players but I can't remember for sure who... Maybe Zoobooks... I got the impression that the two copies at the show were the only ones he had :(.

Today, a gift to myself arrived. I finally bit my lip and put the purchase of "Reptile Medicine and Surgery" by Douglas R. Mader, on my credit card.

Today, is a good day. This book is awesome.

I would love to get my hands on that book. I am very much a science person, and anything to do with it. As for now my book list is quite small. I have a friend that might sell me his hidden jewel book (otherwise ebay :) ) I don't have Connie Dorval's book but my male sambava has his picture in it! Everytime I am at the pet store I have to go take a look!! I should buy it, it is only 10 bucks!

My copy of "Understanding Reptile Parasites" arrived today. Ugh! Definitely not bedtime reading.
Howdy,
Is that the new version? I finally got around to ordering it last Friday night. Can't wait to see what's different in the new one. Hopefully more microscopic parasite photos :).

These are only some of the books I have. Many more are still packed in boxes from my move that I have yet to unpack.

I have a freakin library lol - *looks around* - I know I have some more around my bed somewhere…. :)

It is new, copyright 2007. I've just glanced at some photos, but will begin reading tonight. So far I've learned that prolapses can be caused by pinworm infections, and that chronic regurgitation can be a sign of parasitic infection. Hopefully, I will never have to face any of this in real life. But, the shock effect should do me some good

After all, these poor chams can't do for themselves. Whatever good health they enjoy has to come from their good genes, and their handlers.

I finally tracked down Chameleons: Nature's Hidden Jewels book at the Reptile convention in Sacramento. I couldn't find it at any book stores. That's pretty much my chameleon bible now.

Chameleons: Nature's Hidden Jewels
2nd Revised & Updated English Edition

And about 400 reptiles mags strewn throught the place.
The Necas books are the best and i would love to get the old version to see the diffs.
