My wife and I purchased a Jackson’s 16 days ago, and had problems with it right from the very beginning. He just wouldn’t eat, and today he finally died. When I called the store and asked if I could get even a partial refund, I was told that I was basically SOL. The manager of the store even had a slightly condescending tone to his voice when he told me this. This is a store that we’ve spent a lot of money at over the years, and recently we started having problems with them. We had also purchased a mercury vapor lamp and a florescent fixture from them that day, and when we got home the fluorescent fixture was not in the bag. We had to make a half hour drive back there the next day to retrieve it. They didn’t apologize or anything; they just gave us the fixture. When we got home we discovered the mercury vapor lamp was defective, so we had to drive back there again the following day to exchange it. That bulb was also defective, and we had to make a third trip back the following day. This time the manager adamantly maintained that it was impossible that two bulbs could be defective, and that our fixture must be responsible. He told us we would just have to contact the manufacturer and take it up with them. I put my foot down and eventually forced him to give us a refund (he only had two bulbs), but it was like pulling teeth. He even had the audacity to charge us a restocking fee. By now we’ve gone through an entire tank of gas and spent a dozen hours straightening out this mess. We never received any sort of apology or acknowledgement that we had been grievously inconvenienced.
Now to the crux of my question: is this type of behavior par for the course? Or should we write this guy off and never do business with him again? Our next planned purchase is a female Nosy Be, and I am very intrigued by some of the vendors I have learned about through this message board, particularly Kammerflage. I very much look forward to doing business with them in the near future. However, is the treatment we received from this guy normal for this industry? Is this what we can expect from everybody? Vendors, please speak up!
