I have a well, it is filtered by sandstone - we do NOT have any other type of filtration/ softener system on it - my water does not smell funny or taste funny ( even city ppl like it :p ) it does not leave any funny colors in the tub or coffee pot - but it will leave little white "dots" on stainless steel , and you can not use it to wash your car - spots - but not in the dishwasher ? - after about 2 weeks a fine white residue will build up on the little silver thing in the cool mist fogger- but it just takes a tissue to wipe away - she seems fine, but is there anything to watch for - or should I mix it w/ those reptile drops for water ? anyone else use well water ? should I have it tested ( what would I be looking for if I do?? )
I just want to be sure to do all I can to keep her happy and healthy :D
thanks

I use gallon jugs of purified water from the store. I have a well at my house but it is not very clean water so I don't take the risk. I think reptisafe, or something like that, would be a safe bet if you are using well water just as a precaution but I'm no expert!

Don't know what that could be, but I think bottled water maybe the way to go....only time I have ever used a well was back in my younger days and that had a lot of rust in the water.

The white residue sounds like lime deposit. Ohio does have lime in there soil. (lived in Ohio 16 years)

I'm sorry, but you can't convince me that your well water doesn't smell or taste bad! Bleh! ;) :D

edit*** Ohhhhhh, and you're from Toledo?? I once marched Drum Corp and we stayed in Toledo. The water was soooooo bad and sooooo stinky that we refused to drink it. Mind you, we're marching in 90+ degree temps for 10-12 hours and need hydration. Even the gatorade and kool-aid mixes couldn't drown out the smell or taste.

Have you heard of the Glassmen? We were at their base, next to a pig farm...

Anyways, rant over about well water. If you can, find one of those "windmill" water stations and fill up a couple gallons for a buck. :)

yes it does - lol but we are on a HUGE sandstone ridge- our horse farm is called " Rocklegde Farms " :D and trust me - you do not want to have to dig very deep here- lol

really - its good- when we went to look at the property, I told them I did not need to look any farther until I had a glass of the water- my last place- the water had so much sulfur the horses had BLACK teeth- the barn water did not run threw the system, and it broke about every water system we put in - even a Collagen one- I will NEVER live where there is bad water again :p

Your water is probably "hard". The white stuff is a mineral deposit left behind after the well water evaporates. Most likely calcium carbonate. It isn't harmful to your cham, but it will shorten the life of your fogger and clog mister nozzles unless you remove the deposits periodically. You can use vinegar unless the deposit is really heavy or has built up over a long time.

You can easily test your water for the hardness level with a simple fish aquarium test kit or ask your local water utility who tests wells. Many water suppliers can.

As for taste, wells can be very individual even though they are close together geographically. Depending on what particular mineral deposits your particular well was drilled through, it can taste fine or terrible. For example, we have a lot of naturally occurring arsenic in the local soil profile but its really hit or miss who's well ends up needing filtration.
