We need a plan.

What do you guys do with your chams when disaster strikes?? I grabbed Kuzco last night and it didn't go over well. So I'm curious, what do y'all do when poop hits the fan?? Wake them? Don't wake them? And what about those of you who have like 20 chams?? Mom said we need a plan that will cause the least stress to him bc we don't want to lose him and I'm the only person she knows who would die for a reptile.

I am a total amateur at the cham stuff, but my first thought was to make boxes big enough to fit each of them in. If you have multiple chams, that is.

If you have 20 chameleons, make 20 little boxes. Twist a paper bag so it's a branch and then tape it to the sides/find a way to attach it. Also put towels under that. I'm guessing the box would be around 9"x9"xhowever tall they are.

Leave a feed cup in there. If disaster strikes, you'll have 20 little 'moving boxes' to put them in, and then perhaps even find a bigger box that ALL of them can fit into snugly.

That probably sounds like a terrible idea, but I really like the idea of an emergency moving box type of thing.

But I don't know what you're going through, and I don't know if you'll have any type of warning for this 'disaster'.

Just grab the whole cage I hope you only have one or two chams so you don't have to make tons of trips.

I know what you mean Courtney, you love them and nobody but another cham owner will ever know how that love is.....you do what you have to do to save your baby and hope he can handle the stress....I think the first thing is getting them very comfortable being handled and keep them in the most dim light as possible....I know that when ever we take Picasso to the vet, we put him in a small towel and cover his head and he immediately goes to sleep, don't know if that would work as for waking them up, but you just have to do what you can.....I hope a lot of others chime in on this.

The only thing I would suggest is grab the whole cage. I have an 18x18x36 cage itll be easy for me to just grab the whole set up and think about it. The little guy can stay in his bed haha. Or another thing you could do is. Have a box with a wash cloth stuffed in it so when poop hits the fan real quick grab him and toss him in the box and close it. Itll be stressful for the first min or two then he will settle down as you make your way to the basement or wherever you need to get to. I live in Chicago no tornado's here thank god haha. But like a year or two ago there were two real small earth quakes that was REALLY cool haha. I hope this helps out..... But in all reality theres not much you can do either you stress them or leave them.

I live in a colder climate, and fortunately i have a fireplace that is gas operated so if power fails i can put Odins cage by it, and use flashlights as light.

I like that idea. The little boxes. I can do that. But grabbing the whole cage is out of the question. Its too big. 24*24*48 and I'm not even 5 ft. I only have one cham. He has never bit me until last night. My last cham I could just grab and go, but with my last cham I held him every night till lights out and he'd sleep on my chest so he was used to night time handling.

Exactly. Last night I was so worried. I even took him trying to bite off my finger without flinching just to keep him safe. He was so very stressed, turned white and black and yellow and red. Hissed and gaped like never before. But then this morning, first thing he came to the door just like always, grabbed the finger that he bit (gently) and looked up at me with both eyes like "Sorry I bit you mommy" and he hundred and chilled on my shoulder like always.

Its insane how much I love him. He knows it too. I think they have more emotion and stuff then we give them credit for.

I can't take the whole cage bc its bigger then me but I'm thinking about buying a mini cage. Stuffing him in there on tornado watch nights and then take that where ever. For now I think I'll do the box thing. Make him be a hobo those nights. I could never ever leave him. He's my kid.

Most are gas unless you are putting in wood. The only thing is if the power goes out the fan in the fireplace won't work. So you will have to put the cage really close to the fireplace so he can get the heat.

My mom just told me its gas. But if the power went out wed all get really close to the fire place lol
