water

hi all. I've tried using a water feature in my chameleon cages how ever there not interested they walk over it and that's it. What do you find the bast thing/best way for watering them ?

Any fountain or "water feature" needs to be removed from your enclosure ASAP. It will breed bacteria and will most likely cause your chameleon to get sick. I think I have seen my chameleon drink water once or twice since I have owned him. They will rarely drink when someone is watching. As long as you have a misting system or mist the cage regularly they will find water droplets on the leaves to drink or if you have a dripper that drips on a leaf they will drink from that. If you are worried about the chameleon drinking enough make sure to check its urates. They should be white with a little yellow at the end. If they are not white or tinged all yellow. Up your misting sessions a little bit.

well i clean the water feature daily, and mine drink constant during the day from the leaves and from my hand i start misting and they come down for a drink

Well if they are ignoring the water feature I would just remove it. No sense in making extra work for yourself if your chams aren't even interested in it

Unless you clean the hoses and pipes or whatever on a daily basis too, its not worth it.

chams don't usually drink standing/running water.

they prefer drops of water off of leaves.

if a cricket were to die in the water, then your cham eats it, it could get sick.

if your cham, or a bug, were to poop in the water, then drink/ eat the bug, it could get sick.

there is no reason to risk it.

just hand mist, use a dripper, or buy an auto mist system for watering purposes.

i agree im actually looking at the monsoon rain system as we speak the dripper system is not good in a reptibreeze cage ruins the home

NO DONT DO THE MONSOON!

Its not worth the money.

do either a mist king or an aquazamp.

the monsoons tend to break after a short amount of time.

oh really ?? :( i was thinking its pricey thank you will look into them

its is. doesn't make it good. haha.

most of the forum who has bought a monsoon, had it break within the first year.

now, we use either mist king or aqua zamp. youll find if you run a poll on who owns a mist system, they wil say one of those two.

I use a mist king ultimate, because I run 5 cages off of it.

I will chime in and agree that the monsoons suck. I had mine for 4 months and it already went out on me . They did send me a brand new one. I'm currently saving for a aquazamp. Only bought the monsoon cause I didn't do my research.
