Vornado Ultrasonic Humidifier

Does anyone have any experience with this unit? I am in the market for a quality humidifier, and need some advice. I have 2 panthers and 1 vieled in the same room and could use a boost in humidity. The price is a bit more then other units, yet it self regulates and controls the humidity level so theres really no guess work. I like that.;) I work during the day so I try and mist heavy before I leave for work to keep levels decent during the hours I am away, but come home to find them kinda low. The unit claims to circulate the humidity better then anything else on the market, and prevent much of the dreaded "white dust". It rings in at around $149.99 and unit itself is relativly small in size. The room I am going to be using it is is about 200 sq ft, so I assume the unit will be working at light duty most of the time to keep humidity levels up. Your sugestions are greatly appriciated. Heres a link to the units demonstration: http://www.vornado.com/Default.aspx?ISC_PageName=UltrasonicVideo&ISC_Left=false

Thanks, Jay

fancy humidifier..
It looked awesome.
I just use 30 dollars one at target to achieve humidity and so far has work well.

Yeah... I think the cheap ones are better...

I say this because I have crappy water and can't filter it efficiently. Since I can't run pure water the damn things burn up so much from hard water there is no point in buying a costly humidifier.

It looks cool though....

Thats California for ya. The water is so poor here that they need to use massive amounts of chemicals to get it to meet "acceptable standards". The amount of lime and calcium that comes out of our water is scary. I am going to try that Vornado and see how it goes, I can always return it if it turns out to be a turd. ;)

i gotta admit the one thing that I look forward to this humidifier is the fact that it can turn off or on automatically when the humidity is too much or not enough.
for 60 bucks, i'll probably bought it..
150? ehhh... maybe not.:D I'm cheap!

The automated system on this humidifier is the main reason I want to buy it. While I am at work I have no way of monitoring the unit. If it is " self regulated" Im good to go.:) I think $150 is steep aswell, but its kinda like a babysitter for the chams. I would like to just get a mist system, but the way things are set up it would make a mess. I will give this a shot and keep you all updated.

They do sell humidistats at garden places... it'll turn on or off a item based on humidity selected. They aren't cheap either........ BUT in our case might work... hook up a couple of POS humidifiers to one humidistat and you have a nice system?

I will look into one of those. Thanks for the info.:)

I'd be interested on how easy it is to keep clean. One of the problems I have read about humidifier's are their tendency to grow mold over time if not cleaned after every use.

Well I went by Bed Bath & Beyond tonight, and got a Humidifier. I went in there looking for that Vornado Beast and came out with the Air-O-Swiss AOS 7142 Digital Warm & Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier. This things is a beauty, from the looks atleast... I have to soak the filter for 24 hours before I test her out though.:( I went in there looking to drop up to $150 for a completely automated humidifier, and came up on a super deal on the more expensive Air-O-Swiss one. The unit sells for $229 all day on the internet and in retail stores. I however found the box at the back of the shelf had been either mispriced or was an old box mabey prior to a price increase the box said $199. So Im at $199 and felling kinda excited. I then remembered that I had a coupon for 20% off any one item they sell! Bingo!! I get an additional $40 off that price which brings it down to 159.99!! WooHoo!:) I researched a several units prior to going to the store, so basically knew all the features prior to walking in. I know this is the cadallic of humidifiers, and the price was right. I hope she works as good as the reviews say. I will post some feed back when I get her up and running.;) Here is a link to the model: AOS 7142 Digital Warm & Cool Mist Ultrasonic http://www.airoswiss.net/store/item.aspx?DepartmentId=34&ItemId=157

Ok, I got the humidifier set up and running a few nights ago, and man it is great!!:) I set it and forget it!:) Its accurate and really keeps temp in the room steady. I had serious issues with the ability to hold temps, and now that the room has enough humidity its able to balance temps perfectly. I also love the fact that I am not waking up in the morning with a dry nose and throat too. I feel better and so do the chams.;) I can set the unit to humidify in 5% incruments ie: 35%,40%,45%50%..etc all the way to 80% I have it set to 70% during the day and 60% at night. I know the units guage is accurate cause all 3 digital in cages read the same reading. In fact my 4.5 month old blue bar just shed and it was almost all in one piece, not like the itty bitty flakes the female vieled used to due prior to the humidifier. I am glad I spent the extra money and got this unit as me and my cham roomates are very pleased with the results!;) I would highly recommend this unit for whole room humidification.;) Heres is a picture of the unit.

That thing looks awesome. Do you end up with moisture and residue on the walls and stuff with the humidity that high in the room? I would like to get one of these for my free range room that I am building. It is a 16 x 20 room that will be dedicated to chams. The humidifier would be an awesome addition to this project of mine.

None whatsoever, the walls are dry. Infact I really havent seen any "white dust" either. It has 2 filters that take care of the minerals in the water. I have had it running non stop for 3 days now and its running like a champ. The manufacture claims it to humidify 860sq ft, so you may need more then one unit. I also reversed the rotation on my ceiling fan to creath lift for the mist to help it circulate the moisture more efficiently, with great results. The unit features both warm and cool mist, and utilizes Ultrasonic technoligy which shatteres the water dropplets into thousands of tiny particles, which creates a ultra fine mist. The unit is pretty darn cool!!:Can you tell I like it?!?!?;)
