Vitamin D3 Overdose?!

Hi all!
Looking for some of your awesome expertise and advice to help our new chameleon!

We picked up a male 6 month old veiled Chameleon last week from a family who could no longer care for him - all was going great - He seemed extremely happy and healthy until yesterday. I noticed him first of all gripping onto his front legs with his back legs, and then eventually no longer using his back legs or gripping properly at all. This morning he was a lot worse, in a weird position - semi upside down on the moss in the bottom. We have made sure he has plenty of moisture - he seems to be a bit better this evening and is sat on the top branch again and seems to be holding on using all his legs. He hasn't eaten today, been very lethargic but I believe he has pooped and has been in a few different areas around his house every time we come into the room.

The only thing we can think it might be is we stupidly picked up the calcium supplement with D3 and multi-vitamins and didn't release until yesterday - he's had 5/6 days of D3/multivitam supplement - could it be causing these effects or could it be something more serious like MBD?! We stopped it yesterday morning as soon as we released and will be buying normal calcium ASAP. Will keep monitoring him too in hope to see improvements!

The only other thing I can think is we introduced some live plants to make his enclosure to make more wild - Hibiscus, Spider plant, pothos and some moss from the woods - from what we read and had been told that these are ok and safe?! He has had a few munches but nothing massive.

Anything to help our little Arthur would be incredible - sorry if I'm over reacting - just so concerned for the little buddy - any advice would be so appreciated!!
Thank you all SO much!
Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Welcome to the Forum:

What may complicate the problem is that we don't know what kind of care—or lack thereof—he may have received from the previous owners. Folks here can assess your answers on the form, but that really doesn't tell us the story of the last 3-4 months, when he was growing the fastest.

IMO, the best thing to do would be have him assessed by a herp veterinarian—one who specializes in reptiles. If you don't have one yet, you can find one by following the links in one of these threads, found in the green shaded area of this sub-forum.
Area By Area (& country) Vet list
Veterinarian resources

If you can, get pictures and/or video of these behaviors to show the vet, along with a record of everything you've done (similar to the form above) since getting him.

Best wishes.
