If you are looking for a first chameleon, I would also advise male, if possible, and I think either is a good choice. Similar care and tons of experienced keepers to help if needed. I would advise to try to get one from a reputable source. Having said that, my first is a PETCO impulse buy that has sent me on a very adventurous journey into the world of chameleons and this Forum!
