Veiled Chameleon I just rescued from a pet store!

I rescued this little guy from a local "mom and pop" pet store that was shut down due to animal abuse/neglect and horrible conditions.

The owner of the pet store had 6 chameleons in a 5 gallon tank, no uvb or basking lights, and hardly ever fed. The crickets they very seldom ate were almost dead, not gut loaded, and never dusted with calcium D3.

Anyways, Im glad to have this little guy in my family now. He is definitely in good hands and will be properly cared for now!

If you haven't already read this site's care sheets, you should check them out. There's lots of good info to get you started. There's a link at the bottom of my post.

I would get a different cage for your new guy, in your photos it looks like it's a fish tank. A fish tank doesn't make a good enclosure for veiled chameleons. It's not tall enough, hard to get a good temperature gradient and the air flow isn't good.

Joints looks swollen...with the lack of calcium previous owners gave I suspect M B D. I would have him checked out but a Vet as soon as possible.

I agree! im in the process of building him a custom screen cage! I put him in that tank until I finish his screen cage because it was better than the 5 gallon tank he was in!
