Veiled Chameleon Care

Hi I am new to this forum and would like to get a veiled or maybe even a panther chameleon. I have a Reptarium 175 gallon with an umbrella plant and a marbled pothos. I was wondering how to keep the excess water/chameleon waste off of the floor. I have seen advertisements for soft trays for the reptariums. Does anyone have a picture showing how they work? I have also read articles that said that you should have a permenent water feature for the chameleon to drink from, but some say that they will cuase a lot of bacteria to grow in the cage. What is the best way to go? Thanks in advance for all the advice.

Hi there! The best way of delivering water is by misting a few times a day and also using a drip system. The features that gather bacteria are things like ponds and waterfalls which are not reccomended for chams.

Here's a link to a great care sheet for new keepers

Drainage is a varied subject with many different methods depending on the enclosure. I use a reptibreeze aluminium mesh enclosure and have a tray the whole way round with a hole in the corner for the water to drain into a basin. I took the floor out and replaced it with plastic bread crates so the water doesn't gather https://www.chameleonforums.com/mem...e17300-johns-brilliant-drainage-solution.html

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks, the care sheet was a lot of help. You said to mist only a few times a day. Would it be okay if I misted it more like 8 times, for time like 15 seconds? I have a Mist King set up for dart frogs and I was hoping to use that.
