Vanity for drainage?

So I was at Lowes today and stumbled upon this for $39! Here is what I'm thinking/planning to fit a 2x2x4 cage on top of it:

1. Leave the sink out
2. Cut a piece of plywood 25"x25" to mount on top. Build a frame on both sides and back to contain the enclosure.
3. Cut a hole big enough in the plywood to drop a nice sized pot into it (pot would have a lip that hangs around the edge of the cut hole.
4. Cut the same hole in the pvc bottom of the cage and drop the plant in. The purpose of dropping the plant is to give me more livable space, keep the floor clean and water will drip straight thru to the bucket hidden by the doors on the vanity.

The vanity out of the box is 24w x 17d x 34h.

Does this make any friggen sense?? Stupid? Great? Better ideas? Give it to me!

Yes completely, I have a Vanity sitting at my girlfriends house right now waiting to be used! lol totally picking it up now next time I go over.

Sounds great! I spent several months thinking about drainage for my next cage and just ended up with a couple drill holes in the bottom. I never even thought about dropping the plant into the floor, really cool idea!

If you beat me to it, post up the pics or it never happened!! ;)

Great idea! Ive walked past these numerous times at HD and thought the same thing. I just cant find them in 24x24

This is 24" wide and I'll compensate for the depth by cutting the plywood for the top to 25". Should work, no?

Thanks, but I cannot take credit for dropping the plant! I actually saw this at the breeders house where I picked up my Fenix! ;)

I plan to use one of these in the corner of my herp room. Convert the glass to screen with a lid.. drainage is built in I just need to pipe it through my wall to outside.. love my shotty mobile home. :)

You have a vanity or a shower in your room? And if it's a shower, why do you have a spare shower?? ;) :D

I would imagine her hygienic ways would not be appreciative :D lol

Maybe she would appreciate the effort though...I say do it!

I have 2 vanities and that same shower, what do you think sold my lady on the house..... 5 bedroom place in Murrieta, Ca. I have my reptile room, plus an inside gym. Couldn't ask for anything more. All for $1,300 a month.

Definitely a great idea. I have something similar. I know a few of you were wanting a 24X24. A kitchen base cabinet is that size. This is what I used. You put a drain in the bottom of your cage, make your own top for the cabinet and cut a hole through it and put a drain pan in the upper drawer. You simply pull out your drawer, take out your pan, and drain it out in the sink.

You can get basic ones for 200-250 new.

A cham keeper I used to know got a 1 piece plastic tub/shower surround at a yard sale and installed it to an existing drain in her basement. Set a row of big potted plants in the tub, but as the chams (a male deremensis and a male fischeri multi) didn't explore beyond the clump of pots they didn't screen in the open front. They ran a misting kit across the top of the surround below hanging lights. Worked great! I've often thought a stall shower with a door would be a great cham enclosure and all you'd really need to do is set it up over some sort of drain pan or plumb it to a hose.

Great ideas everyone! I'm off to Home Depot to pick up my vanity! It's closer than Lowes and it's the same price! :D

Here's my list:
Vanity
25x25 cut plywood
Water sealant (to seal the plywood)
Trim/molding
Nails/small tacks
Flower pot
Glue (plywood to vanity)

Am I forgetting anything??

Ok, peeps! It's on like Donkey Kong! I have all my pieces and I hope to work on this 2moro! I'll keep y'all posted!! :D

I am running to lowes tomorrow morning and I am just going to build my cage. The guy I spoke to on craigslist now says he might have someone buying it tomorrow and I have work tomorrow around the time he said so I think I am effed. But I look to only spend around 35-40 bucks tomorrow on a good enclosure built by ME :)
