Vacation

Hello! I will be going on vacation soon for about a week. My veiled chameleon, Kiwi, is about 8 months old. So I only feed him every other day. I have a reptile rescue near my house that keeps all types of reptiles while their families are on vacation. I was wondering if it would be ok to send Kiwi there for the week while I am away? I know how easily chameleons get stressed, so I don't want to do that to him unless it's 100% ok! Thank you!

Finding someone that can care for him in your home is best. Check with nearby vets - often the vet techs will pet sit as a side gig. Even though they may advertise only sitting cats and dogs, pet sitters who advertise may agree. Also check with pet/pet supply stores. Often employees are looking to make a little extra cash. But, if boarding is your best or only option, you’ll have to do it. Yes, he’ll get a bit stressed but it will be short term stress and not chronic stress, which is the really bad type.

How automated is your setup? Timers? Misting system? Do you rely on daily hand misting? If daily misting isn't an issue, it might be easier on everyone to have someone come to your house a couple of times to refill reservoirs and replenish feeders instead of moving everything somewhere else. Talk to the herp rescue. They may or know someone willing to come over and enjoy seeing a nice cham and its habitat.

Agreed with above. I also have an automated system which can hold up to 9 days without refilling. I also put in a feeder run with veggies for the feeders, so may chameleon whenever she wants. However, I got a Parson which only eats when needed, I think your veiled will finish the feeders on the first day 😅

Also got a camera at the enclosure and friends standby with key of our house, just in case I notice something on the camera.
