using hatchrite....right....

So I'm trying my hand at "proper" incubation for once and my mama FINALLY laid 4 eggs and is in her hole all day again today....

I ran out to buy vermiculite...nobody carries it in southern orange country (wth? -.-) anyway prehistoric pets (ugh i hate pet stores) had some hatchrite so I got that.

few questions:
1) any directions to use this? the bag has some but I don't trust it given they misspelled "Pour" (just "pore" and use!)....I'm assuming its pretty straightforward, just have some under the eggs to incubate and leave some room above the eggs to breathe (but seal the container?)

2) how do i know how much WATER to add? I have NO clue what to judge by!?

3) Set it and forget it? (no maintenance/upkeep? or do I need to aerate the container every week or something?)

EDIT: Doh this was supposed to be in breeding....if a mod can move it please my mistake :(

I used it to hatch veiled eggs. I put it in those ziplock/tupperware type containers you get at the grocery store - about 2 inches. Put the eggs on top (made little indentations with my finger to stick the eggs into) put the lid on and put one container in the closet and one in the incubator. Seven months and four days later the babies started hatching.

I have heard people say you need to add water but I didn't. It seemed to be moist enough as I always had a little condensation on the lid. I checked on them every couple weeks in the beginning and more often towards the end.

ty for the confirmation; the water is the only part i was really unsure about....so as long as its "moist" (but no sitting water in the bottom) i'm good/?

the hatchrite never seemed moist to touch but there was always a bit of condensation. I would try it for a day and see if it seems okay and if not add a small amount of water.
