Most silk worm eggs in the 250-1000 range come preglued in the dish. How do you remove just the amount you need and keep the rest in the fridge?

ya cant if there glued.. to do what you wanna do you haveta buy them bluk not glued an then youll need get some petri dishes an just add as many at a time as you want..

When I ordered eggs online I didn't realise that they take them out of diapause to ship them. I made the mistake of putting mine into the fridge to hatch at a later date, but inadvertantly killed them. That is the case with eggs bought in the UK. They usually takes a week or so for them to hatch when I order online.

Well over here at the other side of the pond its in the lower 30'sF so i hope they dont activate. coastal silk worms just say to add a note for unglued.

ouch i need to spend $7 for the ice box and overnight them ($30) shipping to be able to refrigerate the eggs. I think i might be better off just buying some worms and turning them into moths.

What kind of temps do you have? Maybe you can email them and ask if they will use normal shipping with the icebox option at your own risk? Also, just ask if they will leave them unglued if you leave a comment in the order?

I've had eggs sent to me with a cold pack in normal (priority) shipping (in the winter) and stuck them in the fridge. It worked out fine, and the shipping distance was about the same as it would be for you if you ordered from mullberryfarms. That said, I don't know if the conditions would be the same or even similar for you.

they will ship them loose. However they ship out of Florida, so at least 1 day will be well above frig temps. Its kinda a tough gamble. get 50 worms in a bucket for $30 shipped, or 500 eggs for $40 shipped.

If I can get the moths to lay eggs then i can get the system up in 2 months, i just need to continously buy mulberry chow.

If they are in a well insulated box with an ice pack, I dont think (and this is my opinion) that it would be that much of an issue. Also, if you mean a day of your temps will be above fridge temps, unless it is the day they are arriving, they probably wont be in your area but rather in transit.
