Trying to breed

at least 3-4 months. Wait until next year. that'll give the chams plenty of time for them to get accustomed to their new environment and for you to learn THEIR behavior. That way you'll be able to tell when something isn't right. You have to be very patient with this. You just cant make it happen. There is no rush for this. If you rush it, you will harm the chameleons and will come out losing everything you've put into them.

As I said, there is no rush.

what!!
next year!!
but then they will be too old for breeding

Then don't breed them.. Their health is more important than you ambition to breed them, imo. The chameleons health always comes before what I want to do with them.

The 3-4 month period is not only for them to get accommodated, but also for you to be sure that they are of breeding age.

If that is the only reason, rethink it. You have to take in to account that is is expensive, you have to be sure you'll be able to take care of the babies and find them good homes after, you also have to take into account all the things that can go wrong.

Really take your time while studying how to breed. There are many variables to think about.

carpet chameleons are not the best chameleon for a newbie breeder to start on first..also if you are in such a rush...take in consideration of hatching times..carpet chameleons take around 9-17 months to hatch..also the carpet chameleons live around 3-6 years, they will not be too old to breed if you wait a year..

truthfully going about breeding when you are still new to chameleons in general is not reccomended..but if you where to try and breed , go with a live bearing species like jackson's (they have horns..)..either way, whatever you plan on dooing, i would wait a few years and get some experience first, i know it doesent sound very positive, but in the long run it will save you LOTS of money, time and aggravation..buy, two identical enclosures (around $500.00 each) to hold the male and female separatley, and a third thats not as filled with branches and plants for babies..also i would reccomend breeding some insects like crickets as having lots of babies gets expensive to feed, and to find such small food is also a pain...i waited about three years before i bred my first pair of jacksons chams..was rewarding tho to be paitient with them.

if you have a werners chameleon..male or female..i would just try and locate the opposite sexed one online..as for the carpet chameleons..they are also not a very easy species to keep..i would reccomend selling them to an experienced keeper of carpet chameleons, and use that money to purchase more equipment for future breeding..when a male or female is available for you later you will be ready to breed..

I agree with the above poster. You are going at this the wrong way and for the wrong reasons.

Take your time, take your time, take your time.. I cannot stress it enough.

Dont breed just because you want to see a baby come out of an egg. For that, go on youtube or get a chicken and hatch out a baby chick.

There are many things that you probably still dont know. Really, learn about things rather than doing them blind as you are doing now.

seriously....dont be in such a rush..even if they mate its still gunna take 4 months or so before you see eggs..and if its live birth about 4-6 months anyway...do some more studying..that cant be said enough..read, read, read, and really do TAKE YOUR TIME..in the end you will be waay happier at your resulting sucsess

Just correcting you.. its about a month after mating that you'll have eggs.

As far as breeding, please do research WELL everything. There are too many things to consider. Please do so.

just noticed that HAA..

either way..i think it would be a no no for this guy\gal to breed just yet..:D

Yes, rushing is one of the WORST things you can do, especially for breeding these animals, or any for that matter.

totally..and even age is one more thing to consider..the younger the female when she breeds the harder it will be on her body (can reduce lifetime by more than half)..
