Traveling with eggs?

Hi all, I am moving cross country from NJ to CA and wondering if anyone has ever traveled with eggs. I know that you can ship eggs within one month of being laid. I will be flying and my husband will be driving a u-haul, so the question is which would be the easier softer way or neither? I have eggs that have been incubating since the end of April and beyond. Does anyone know if eggs are allowed in a carry on at the airport, or if the x-ray would be dangerous? Or if it is way to risky to ship eggs that far along? My thinking is that having them in an incubator in the u-haul may be the best way to go. Or is it way too long and bumpy of a trip? Would I be better off putting off the move a bit? ( but then I would still have the same problem!) any thoughts, input and experience would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I don't think you're allowed to take eggs on a plane anymore than a reptile...I could be wrong but it is the same as trying to smuggle animals in authority's eyes. I would suggest the u-haul but have never transported eggs that way myself (although plan to if my mom's turtle lays eggs again). The big thing is to not let them turn or rotate so if they're in a stable place protected from much movement I think that would be a better option imo.

I drove from CA to FL with eggs took me 3 days to drive .. I didnt have any issues, I just kept them on the floor in the back seat area..with alot of stuff surrounding it so it couldnt move "Slide" around..GL with your move!

As they say...Eggs are pretty hardy - You shouldnt have any issues with keeping the container "w-o" an incubator for a few days till you get to your destination.

I don't think I myself would risk it, I HATE airports, they took away my jar of tartar sauce I could only get in Washington state.

I would move them in the incubator, What I would do different is I would do is have the eggs inside a layer of vermiculite, make the whole container they are in secure so the can't turn and should not get to rattled. If they are securely packed in the box I think they would make. But I have never had to do this. i did pack one egg in a box like that, mail it from Montana to Seattle.He hatched right on time. The happy little guy is about 1 1/2 years old so it must not have hurt him.

Yesss....I didn't mention.. the eggs were pushed into the vermiculite so they couldnt move - Stupid Me! I would hate have you think the eggs rolling around in the container..lol

Oh god I remember when my ears popped so bad I couldn't hear for about an hour, I was TERRIFIED! If I could have gotten black spots and stripes I would have.

Good that is one less problem to worry about while moving. There are always lots more where that came from.

I feel your anxiety about moving!

I am driving from FL and taking about 3 weeks to make it out there to sight see and make a trip of it

Anyone have any experience with moving Chams over this stretch of time?

suzi... send them with your husband in the uhaul. you can get something called a power inverter and it will let you plug your incubator into a cigarette lighter! END OF STORY. That would be the ideal situation!

and if you are using a one of the standard 'mini-fridge" style digital incubators..they include the "car hookup" for transporting eggs..it would be great!!

(ofcourse practically bolting everything down just short to nailing the eggs inplace so they stay still..im sure we all know how bumpy thos uhaul trucks are)

and congrats..california is waaaaaay better than where you are comming from...just remember..we go west here to get to the beach..not east!!

one of my friends came from nj..she still thinks east is to the beach..LOL
