Not sure if it has anything to do with the tongue issues but the temps are too hot for a 3 month female. Lower the basking to the low 80's.

If you overfeed the chameleon all the time it could develop MBD and one symptom of that is lack of proper tongue function...but you will need the vet to give the chameleon a test to see if this is what's going on.

I was having an issue with Claude, same thing, his tongue would not shoot properly. It was possibly a Vit A issue (not getting enough) or possibly a dehydration issue. I have been watching him very closely it has only happened twice - the first time I was terrified but the second time I noticed he hadn't been drinking well in the morning for a few days. Since then I have up his misting times on my mistking and give him all the time he needs in the morning to drink (I am getting up at 5am to get ready for work so I can stand at his cage for 30min waiting for him to drink!!!) and I have not had it happen since. I have given him extra vit A, but only twice in about 2 months. You have to be careful not to over do the Vit A as well. So those are a couple ideas, things to look for. Good luck! It is a scary thing to see for sure!

She is more older tha 3 months. i have her for 3 months. Where i live are no reptile vet.

Can i gutload the crikets only whit carrots mean while. To se if that is the problem and start misting the water for a while

mine is the same thing male veiled i dont know whats wrong with him i toojk him to a vet and he gave me antibiotics and they didnt work so i ignored the vet and never went back he wanted to do a BLOOD TEST to judge the sex of my male 1 year old veiled chameleon so im saving up money to take him to a good vet:eek: since he isnt getting better or worse i just have to take him to a better vet

This is my second chameleon. The first one died because she wasent opening an eye. So i call a vet and ask him do you treat reptiles and he say yes bring him. He grab the chameleon and try to open her eye whit a qtips the chameleon dont liket and tried to bite him. He grabed her so hard that the chemeleon poop and broke her ribs:mad:. So i start to call and call. And in the blackmarket some one recomend me a good vet the best one in reptiles i can say in Puerto Rico. When i show her to him he said to late:(

She died because of the first vet:mad:

The good vet said that he only deals whit tha basics on reptiles.

This is sad beacuse in PR almost all reptiles are illegal including mine. thats why are no reptiles vet

Sorry for the bad english here we speak spanish

In Puerto Rico the island.
Hi there banshee! Im also from Puerto Rico. What bad vet did you go to?(hes name) So that i dont end up on that one if i have to get my jackson chameleon to the vet (hope never happens) I also would like to know the good vet's name and number, so i can have as many references as possible. I have the phone number of a vet in San Juan called Dr. Armando Burgos, aparently he has treated lots chameleons before. By the way your overfeeding your veiled 0_0 20 is waayyyy to much lol Mist more often or buy a mister, its very helpful specially when temperatures go crazy here on PR. sometimes its fresh and next 30 min its hot like hell. Si prefieres que te hable en espa porque se te hace mas facil me avisas :) Exito con tu cham! Espero que se mejore!

Can we see pictures?

I really doubt that poor diet could cause such a problem in just 3 months. The too high temps might though.

Also, it doesn't seem like it cools down much at night. Is that the temperature in your house at night or are you doing anything to keep the cage warm? If you are, please stop because they benefit from a cooler, dark night.

I will post pictures today and see if i can post a video. How much cold it should get

Your gutloading and prey selection is inadequate, IMHO. Your chameleon could be suffering from a deficiency.
Did the problem start all of a sudden, or did it slowly get worse?
Check out this blog entry: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/232-tongue-troubles.html

and I agree the temp is too high for a female.

Wen i buy him never shoot the tongue to far like 4-5 inches. but like i feed her on a boul never notice the problem until she had to get so close.

Thanks for the info, i live in arecibo and probably i woud have looked for a closer vet than the one at san juan and ended up in the bad one lol there are a LOT of experienced people around here. Try posting pics as soon as posible so that they can help :) Im starting on taking care of chams. So im not that experienced, but sometimes i could help or ask someone else. By the way do you get your feeders from the guy at quebradillas? Is he reliaable? No sabes de alquien que tenga otra variedad de insectos ademas de los grillos, mealworms y superworms en PR? Te lo agradeceria mano!

So he used to be able to use his tongue to shoot at and get his food.
Now he doesnt. But did the change happen quickly, or slowly over time? Did he just suddenly stop using his tongue to shoot at his food, or did he seem to get worse at it over time until he gave up?
