Tongue problem

So he used to be able to use his tongue to shoot at and get his food.
Now he doesnt. But did the change happen quickly, or slowly over time? Did he just suddenly stop using his tongue to shoot at his food, or did he seem to get worse at it over time until he gave up?

He still uses the tongue but a litle not to much i will put a video when i get home
