Tongue problem

Afternoon,

I've noticed my 1 year veild Chameleon not being able to use his tongue. He's eating and drinking fine. I dust calcium everyday and multi vitamin one a month.

I've took photos of this Viv and him on general. As well as his mouth.

I'm a little concetcon about the front of his mouth as you maybe able to see from the photos.

Any help would be great.

Thanks Matt.

He defanitly has something going on in the front of his mouth. Fill out the help form, the link is in my signature.

After that can you get him to open his mouth and get some close ups of the inside front of his lower jaw, like where his teeth are?

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Veild, male, 1 year old, 1 year.
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Not very. One a month. Handling has been kept to the minimum.
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Brown crickets, hoppers, Mario worms, leafy greens. 10 Evey other day. Feeders are gut loaded.
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Pro rep calcium/minralm everyday.

Zoo med muti vitamins every month.
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Misting about 5 times aday. About a minute or two. And yes I do.
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
Mosty brown. Sometimes yellow/white due to the very hot weather in the UK.
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
None

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Mesh. 500mm x 500mm x 1500mm
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
100w heat blub.
Eco tera 10% 14" tube. 12 hours on/off
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
36c and 25c
Losest overnight is about 19-22c.

Laser temperature gun.
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Misting is used. About 40-60%. Hydrometer
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Can't remember there names but when I brought them I did check to see if there safe.
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
On the floor but is about 1.5m high. Opposite a window. Plus I have it open for most of the day for moment of air.

He's in my room so low traffic in the day but med to high in the evening.

Location
- Where are you geographically located?

UK, England.

I'll try and get some photos tomorrow. He's fine with me and used to me but isn't the best at being handled. I'll have my work cut out haha.

I think you should try to get him to the vet. That looks like some kind of infection in his mouth. Husbandry suggestions might be good for treating him in the long run not that anything jumps out at me with his care. That mouth problem needs veterinary care before he loses complete use of his tongue.

Only just got the one angle for now. I'll try again later. Don't want to stress him out too much

I’ve learned everything I know about chams from the more experienced members of this site, I trust their opinions. If @JacksJill says not to waste time with reviewing husbandry and go straight to the vet then that is when you should do.

Plus the pic you posted showed every part of his mouth except the part I asked to see!

I wish I could see a picture of the front of the lower jaw to be sure. I know how hard that picture is to get. I afraid it is infected and that it will progress to the tongue and keep him from eating. The other thing that concerns me is the puffiness under his eyes and the discharge from his right nostril.
How is he doing now?
A husbandry review is always helpful but sometimes it can wait until after treatment has begun.
