my female is very receptive as i have told some people and i dont want her laying infertiles for the sake of laying eggs. Should i mae them. she layed a fertile clutch in august and then layed an inferile clutch early november. what should i do it is now about her 15th day of being receptive so she is holding out. will it be ok:confused:

I agree with Jannb. Dont mate her again. When Clea lays her retained clutch, she wont in counter another male

uhm, do you mean encounter??

I would say dont mate because If you only want 1 fertile clutch your almost guaranteed 2, because females can retain sperm and lay more than 1 fertail clutch.

umm, do you mean fertile? :)

I don't think you should breed her again. If you don't want her laying eggs then go read the raising kitty blog and follow those directions.

Big difference.

Yes, your right, because I actually knew how to spell fertile.

Bradley, if you feel that you can support the neonates, (I dont know your past breeding experiences, if you've bred before, etc.) then there is no problem, everyone should have a breeding experience, its just a different story when you are not prepared, but I dont think that a single female should be bred more than once (there are acceptions though), buuuuuut, if she just layed an infertile I think you should wait and give her a chance to fully recover.

Ok whatever Danny

What type of chameleon is it? Perhaps you can keep her such that laying eggs is not a necessity?
But just because she is receptive doesnt mean you need to breed her.

Spelling isn't an accurate measure of intelligence, if that's what you're getting at. Anyways, nothing will stop people from pursuing the roll of the grammar police. Unless the way Clea spelt "in counter" confused your understanding of his statement...why did you comment on it? I'm sure you were coherent enough to understand what he meant.

Oh so you would rather me just leave it be and let him spell it wrong and not know how to spell encounter? Is that what your saying? When did anyone mention intelligence? Here we go again, blowing one little thing out of proportion. Dont make a mountain out of a mole hill people.

Bradley has alrady bred his female before I believe (unless he has another one I don't know about.) It is a female veiled chameleon.

Edit: lol, lizardlover you just made it a bigger mountain.

I have a tendency to do that.

based on what you are saying, I wouldnt recommend breeding her again.

Dont you guys have PMs you can argue through? Seriously. A little respect for the OP! He asked a question and now he and other people have to rummage through this junk to get any use out of it or the mods will have to clean it up.

So why could'nt you have PMed us all this? I dont see anything related to the question here.

it is a female veiled and yes clea the chameleon i have decided to breed her as i started the raising kitty regime halfway through her receptivity period. I am fully prepared with the incubator, enclosure and all the equipment neccesary to raise the young. as for experience she has layed a fertile clutch before that is due to hatch this month. i have money waiting to pay for feeders and already know there are homes for the babies i am raising. oh and what people are saying about double clutching is true, she does double clutch. the last time she layed a fertile clutch she did have another 3 months later but all but 1 were fertile so she doesnt store sperm well. i will not be breeding her when she double clutches from this breeding and will probably not breed again untill next year. She has the right calcium supplements so she should be fine. Thankyou for all advice and concerns but i have everything prepared and under control.

Thanks again
Brad:D
