to get this in the cage ive just cut a tiny hole in the mesh but just wondering know were should i put it should i put it at the basking site and set the dial to that or put the probe at the bottom of the cage and just raise or lower the basking spot to recieve the correct basking temp?

Keep it at the basking spot. So you can monitor his basking temps, and make sure it doesnt get to hot as temps increase in summer. You may notice temps increasing and have to drop the wattage of his basking bulb in summr months. Depends on how cool/warm your home is. Before i set mine up though i took readings from other areas in the cage with all the lights on to check his temp gradient. You want him/her to be able to have warmer/cooler areas to reg body temps.

ok cool thanks whats the best way to attach it to the basking spot just tie it with a piece of wire or cable tie?

I just wrap the probe wire around his basking branch and attach with a twist tie. That way it can be removed later on cleaning days or to check cage temps in other areas.
