I just got this little un-sexed juvie from Julie and The Gecko Ranch at the Sacramento show a couple weeks ago. Phelsuma klemmeri, the Neon Day Gecko or Yellow-Headed Day Gecko, was among the species of Malagasy geckos suspended from international trade by CITES in 1995 along with most of the chameleons. Thanks to the efforts of a few people there are still babies available from bloodlines exported from Madagascar prior to the trade suspension. I still have, and actually just read again, an article in Reptiles Magazine about the first time this species was imported into the U.S. in 1992 and I've had them on my wishlist ever since.
I really enjoyed putting this 18" cube Exo-Terra together for such a little gecko. I think once I can figure out its boy/girlness I may have to add a couple more.
Supposedly these get to be one of the more calm, handleable Phelsuma. Wish he'd have let me reach in and scratch off that dookie.
Almost no green on a day gecko?
