I agree. I think anthropomorphizing chameleons, or any animal for that matter, fails to do their amazing survival adaptations justice. That’s not to say that I’m taking a stance on the emotional complexity (or lack thereof) of chameleons. I’m just saying it does them an injustice to attribute human emotions to them because it tacitly impugns their myriad other attributes that are far superior to our own. Again, chameleons might have chameleon feelings, but those will almost certainly be very different things than human feelings.
