I love this color they go when they want no part of a male. Pictures just doesn't do the species (Trioceros quadricornis quadricornis) justice--it is such a velvety, beach-tarry black.
If you look closely at this second picture (no flash), you can see even that the quick of the toe nails have gone black. That was a bit of a surprise. Look at the shiny black labial scales around her mouth--she looks like a scary voodoo priestess. The last picture was the only picture taken with a flash. You can see how velvety she is, even her throat spikes look like velvet. I can't get a decent picture of the beautiful jewel greens they get on their head with or without a flash. The lights make wash the green out to almost white--they must be very reflective. Maybe I can get a good picture in natural sunlight or outside on a cloudy day.
