Hi im currently having problems getting my temps rights in my veileds viv. I have a thermostat set at 82F for the ambient temp but when the temp reaches that the basking light dims to maintain the temp. The problem with this is that tyhe basking spot is then not high enough. Any help would be great.

Location - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?

my ambient temps durring the day range from 75-82 durring the day, i dont have a thermostat set up though..with a reptisun 5.0 and a 50/75 watt bulb at the top corner i achieve adequate temps..the rest of the cage exposed to room temps 72-75.. dont know if that helps you but...

to better help you, filling out the form ryan posted will help....Also a picture or your set up and especially your thermostat and sensor position would be prime....
It sounds like your basking temp is too low, which is not being sustained by your lamp, either because the thermostat is kicking the power off when it should be on or your bulb is too small.
Hard to tell with the little information you have provided so far.

hi sorry about the lack of info heres some bellow:
My cage is viv 24 x 36 x 48 and its made out of wood with a glass front. Its has 5 large vents on the back and 3 on each side. The make is viv exotic.
I know that this site frowns upon glass fronted cages but i got it 6 months ago and made a few changes to it. Like adding the extra vents. I live in the u.k by the way.
I have an exo terra repti glo 5.0 uvb light and an exo terra 100w basking spot bulb which is attached to the thermostat.
i mist his cage 2 to 3 times a day and have also just bought a little dripper dripping system. i also have a super fog humidifier.
i have fake plants in the viv along with logs and branches and two hibiscus plants.
This is my 1st chameleon and i try to read as much as i can about them from different sites and i also have a few books.
My chameleon is a male veiled chameleon called squiggle and is about 18 months old and about 15 inches long from nose to tip of tail.
As i said this is my 1st chameleon so im still learning but i hope im not doing anything wrong to harm him as im very attached to him now.

And how is it set up? and how to do you monitor the temps at the basking spot and the rest of the viv?
